Sock packing tech?

Been running a successful lab for almost 5 years now, have upgraded almost every aspect of our operation from better ovens to automatic grammers, etc.. One thing that has remained unchanged is hand packing socks; I’d love to not have an employee have to pack socks all day every day. I have a small team and rotate them around. There was the luna sock packer, but it’s a tad big. Does anyone have any leads on new concepts or designs similar. Currently we have a goal of 8-10 socks packed an hour by hand, that involves doing paperwork, locating biomass, weighing, etc.. We run through about 250LBS a week and I really only have one person to allocate time, maybe two if I’m lucky.

Any insight would be helpful!!

This has been explored a time or four…

Thanks, brother. I’ve explored most everything to do with socks on this forum a time or 50 as well. Was more or less hoping there was some new machine/tech I hadn’t seen.

Ordering stuff for the lab on this beautiful Friday morning and figured I’d revisit the topic in my mind.

Plus side on hand packing is we stay in shape. lol

It was already linked, but you could build your own.

Is there a reason packing bags takes your team so long? A trained member of the team I’m working on at the moment can pack a set of socks in 2-4 minutes. Un-trained closer to 5-6 minutes.

We tend to leave use enough packed for the next day to begin so there’s something for someone to work on on and off all day.

Maybe have someone pre-pack all of your socks for the next day/two and then just have them pop in and out to keep runs well stocked.

My employees locate, assess quality, do paperwork, then pack socks. You’re right that socks shouldn’t take that long to put 3-5lbs of biomass into a sleeve, if it were just as simple as weed appearing in front of us and things prepped. We definitely are able to “keep up” more or less trying to find a magical fix to the endless labor that goes into it. I just had an employee tear their shoulder from supposed repeated packing motions, dude is a beast and could crush socks all day long, trying to ease the load on my guys.

Appreciate the input!

Might be worth having the person above them do the pre-work (lead/supervisor locates and assesses quality the day prior) and then your techs can focus entirely on packing.

Also the colder the weed the better it packs, the difference between -40 weed and -80c weed is insane.

3-5lb of biomass in what size sock? If I’m running 8x48 columns I want to have 10-12lbs in that sock and that takes me a decent amount of time

Agree, in my lab we are all fully capable of doing every job. I’m thankful I’ve had the same squad since the beginning of operations. That being said, I’m not too concerned with the amount of time it takes to prep, were pretty efficient in that regard, it’s just the amount of effort that it takes to physically pack socks. packing a sock once things are all set up only take 5-10 mins per sock if their dragging. And man, aint nothing like actually true cryo temps weed for prep, makes work a dream in the freezer.

I pack 6in x 36in socks for our columns. on the smaller side, however I am in the market for a new extractor, my company is looking into getting the Fluxwerx FLUX 30 and hopefully that can increase throughput for our current and future needs. those are cured number obviously as well. Ill pack about double for FF.
