hey guys i need some help understanding whats going on. so sometimes when I begin the final distillation run, everything goes normal. My distillate looks nice coming out, my waste is black as tar and chunky. but then my waste side starts collecting good distillate. why?

fundamentally: because it isn’t evaporating… (which means it’s not “good distillate” at all)
which might have something to do with those “chunks”.
when was the last time you opened it up and looked at your wiper blades?
the last time you cleaned with hot water?
what did chemtech have to say?
(its not working and you haven’t called the OEM?!?)

I run a kd10 and if your raffinate/residue gets above half the sight glass sometimes it will get pulled over into the distillate sight glass. Typically from poor vacuum or leaks in the sight glass valve.
Like @cyclopath said too…worn wipers/rollers can also be the culprit

Would also ask: is this thc or cbd being distilled?
When we run our condenser hotter than 100c it darkens our distillate a little.
I’d guess thc from your evap temp

Also what is the vac at? If that fluctuates the system will have to compensate to remain consistent.
Wiped-film in general for me is a balancing game, so speed of the distillate passing through is the main parameter controlled for by heat/vac/wipers etc. Unfortunately like an azeotrope, the variables aren’t often linear.
Have you used a nomograph?

What’s the terp strip parameters? I’ve also seen that as a factor with oddities in wfe

156 is the temp I terp strip at, not at 50 microns though ( usualt I terp strip at 1torr vacuum)
He needs to go to 170 atleast IMO
His condenser is really hot too
The boiling point of thc or cbd at 50 microns is 138c
Hes at 110 on the condenser, he’s probably going to blow some cannabinoids to the cold traps at that temp
I do 100 max on the internal on a wiped film

You could he running alot faster if you weren’t wasting residence time heating the crude up to evaporation temp
120 on the feed minimum will allow you to run alot faster

You need to change the max rpm on the vfd
It’s maxed at like 300 when it can do like 1750 rpm
