Another Newbie looking for Help with budget pumps!

Fisher is good. Huber and julabo are better. You can always find value in the Chinese import market as well. Do your homework. Nothing worse than blowing your wad on a :lemon:

I bought a rotovap and now i can use the heat bath to run the short path. If i used my short path more I would need a dedicated circulating heater because I would be taking it away from the rotovap. Start with what you need then work up to what you want. Never ever start with what you want…

Hes asking spd not ffe/wfe correct?

USA labs glass kit w mantle $900 sounds like a 2L to me. And i know i called dave when i was about to buy a welch 1400 and I’m glad i did now because i have an alcatel that I bought used and it went down to 3 micron without even changing the oil. I paid $550 for it but im glad i didnt spend 400 on a welch which i was planning on

Im not hating on the Welch i know you have several LOL im just saying if you are buying only 1 pump to run SPD dont buy the Welch.
Now if youre buying 2 pumps use the Welch as a roughing pump get it down to 100 microns or so then switch to the big boy. You will run into waaay less problems this way.

Just an update on where my research has led me, hoping for feedback that matches my goals.

I know allot of the folks here are totally in it for the business end. I am not. I am just looking to process enough oil for my own personal use.

I’m now thinking of a 500ml setup. I think 2L will be far too big for me. I harvest about 22 ounces of biomass every 3 months or so. I’m going to dedicate half to oil, then keep the other half to keep as flower. So, I’m really looking to process about 10 ounces or so of bud (with the sugar leaves).

Right now, I have a welch 1400 and a Yellow Jacket. The yellow jacket info is here, its the 6cfm model:

For a heat bath, I now have a Fisher Scientific Isotemp 202:

https://www.fishersci.com/shop/products/fisher-scientific-isotemp-digital-control-water-baths-model-202-7/p-4903854

At this point, I am looking for a glass kit, with a mantle and stands. Before I pull the trigger, I’m going back and forth on the size, 500ml, 1L, 2L.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Probably 500. Was reading earlier today that someone here on future4200 is auctioning @Beaker (RIP)
500 mill setup.

I’d go for the 500ml setup personally. It takes quite a bit of material to get 1000ml (I’ve ran with 700ml in the bf) after decarb.

I need to wash about 20lbs trim to get near 1000ml crude after decarb. Its normally 700-900ml.

And x2 on @Beaker items!

Thanks @Defender and @Demontrich. I am more and more leaning towards a 500ml.

I did see the Beaker items. I was all ready to throw my hat in, but I am confused if that’s a 250ml setup, because one of the guys also threw a 500ml kit up there. So two kits in the same thread.

For sure, I think 500ml is the way. Talking with the other local guys that I grow with, even if we pool our raw mats together, we would have 5 pounds every 3-5 months.

If you guys don’t mind, could I keep posting where I am at with this process, and get feedback? I’ve been doing my research and reading for a very very long time, and am just putting the rig together. I don’t even know any of you, but I’ve already read all your posts over the last year or so. Without knowing it, you’ve already helped me a ton!

I should say, that comment about you all helping me was directed at the wider crowd! I’d hate to leave folks out in a call out. Great community here!

Hey late to the party here, but if you ever have any questions on vacuum equipment, feel free to shoot me a message. I flip pumps on the side and 90% of the time that involves some kind of rebuild, so I’ve been inside most common pumps for this industry. If you find the Welch to be too slow let me know and I’ll keep my eye out for something with higher throughput.

If you haven’t made the purchase already, I’d say the 250ml spd kit being offered up is a good bargain. And you wouldn’t have to worry about gathering so much crude for a run.

I was curious, but couldn’t justify all the other costs associated with getting started. Plus the amount of material needed for any spd run kinda rules it out for me.

Anyway, good luck with it all!

I agree with @Demontrich ~20lbs of trim usually yields me close to a liter of finished crude. With 10oz’s, even if it’s high quality you’re looking at maybe just over 100g of crude. Maybe 100-150? And I don’t think you’d wanna wait another 3 months just to run, so the 250 ml might be right up your alley.

I can’t find a thread that has the info on the @Beaker glass. I’m looking to find out what is included.

It’s the most of the glass needed and the heating mantle. You’ll still need a cold trap from my understanding.

I was looking at prices on just the glass for a 250ml kit, and it was like 350.

Make em an offer!!!

@cyclopath, care to add any information to entice this man?
