Removing extract from collection chamber

I have to agree that my pictures of the garage do look a little sketchy. I live completely alone though and dont have neighbors. I also only ran it on windy days, the wind would be whipping threw the garage. I always shut off all power at the breaker. I use 1 led light that is battery powered and i sealed it at all joints so gas couldnt get into it.

I think you will all be relieved that i am done extracting in this location. I will now move on to building a explosion proof extraction booth (using graywolfs Design. The only part im missing is an explosion proof fan. I might even just build it into a shed.

We’ve all been there, at least some of us. And as long as you’re being as safe as possible. I do like your heater setup going through the wall like that. In your next space you can use a propane instant hot water heater and a barrel of sorts, and using a small pool pump to circulate everything. You’ll have plenty of power and it will hardly cost you anything to run it. With very little electricity.

And there’s a good amount of info on fans, if not. We should definitely start a thread on sourcing parts for c1d1 environments. Fans, controllers, lights, sensors etc

Bro I looked at the photos first and was like WTF relay switch deathtrap lmfaoo.

@Dmarkus_green pump hot fluids in your collection jacket to recover, idk why you have a vacuum relay switch under your collection.
Buy a jacketed collection. Dont risk your life lol

For the love of god, please remove that ASAP.

Its a liability.

Butane/propane sinks in ambient air, your collection will billow invisible gas over the relay switch and thats a BIG nono…

What relay switch are you referring to?

That’s his heater vessel, not his collection tank……
Maybe I’m mistaken.

Looked at this while im OTW to my warehouse. You’re correct, seems like a remote heater vessel?
DIY recirculating heater remotely mounted.

Still those shop relays are NASTY.
They kick a large arc/plasma arc wheneber they go off, inside the enclosure.

Easiest ignition source there is.

FYI, filling the relay enclosure with firesafe foam/caulking could save your life from an unnecessary accident.

The voids in the enclosures are where gasses like to build up.

So when you say my electronics should be potted, you’re NOT saying it needs to be smeared in BHO?

I always hate how those switches make the lights flicker every time it clicks on

It’s on the other side of the wall from where he extracts, as well.

Those are all some great ideas, I’ll definitly incorporate them.

That’s right the electric heater and the relay were on one side of the wall. And the collection vessel was on the other side of the wall.

I silicone caulked around the heater hose/drywall so I feel gas getting to the relay thru the wall was unlikely.

Side question
I know officially your not supposto bring a smartphone into a room with live butane running. And I never did, but do they produce sparks? I mean mines water resistant so I assume its sealed pretty well.

under normal conditions a cell phone’s components can get fairly hot.

under abnormal conditions they can get extremely hot. The battery could vent. ever seen a lipo fail? its not pretty

google “cell phone catch fire” then think if you really wanna bring that in the booth with you

they have burned people badly before just sitting in peoples pockets.

Take your phone out of its case and then leave the flash light on pointed towards your leg with thin shorts on. You’ll feel it.

You must have a brighter flashlight. I pressed both my phones against bare skin for 5 minutes with the flashlight on and I couldn’t even feel any added warmth.

Well it is an unlocked Chinese 5G phone from aliexpress so I wouldn’t doubt it

They make intrinsically safe C1D2 phone cases, but they aren’t cheap.

You can grab intrinsically safe C1D1 flashlights pretty cheap as well.

how does a case protect against catastrophic battery failure?

Instagram can wait.

“The only way that a mobile phone could generate a spark at a petrol station would be due to a defective battery, which is unlikely and could also occur in the case of the car’s own battery. While the possibility is remote, there is a low risk that an explosion could occur from the gases that are emitted by the hose and not from the fuel.

The truth is that the use of mobile phones is probably more dangerous as a source of distraction than as the possible source of an explosion. According to a report from the Petroleum Equipment Institute, there are no documented incidents at petrol stations related to fires or explosions caused by the use of mobile phones.”

They’ve already incorporated Apple Pay, and other pay by phone apps at lots of pumps now.

If you’re worried about your battery exploding, I don’t know what to tell you. Just like the report above, I believe the real danger here comes from being distracted.

I just stuck my phone to my neck and within 30 sec pressed firmly against my skin it started stinging pretty quick lol I’m about to try one more time to make sure I’m not tripping

Yep 5min pressed firmly I bet I have red mark left

keep it cold and somewhat saturated during pouroff into a tray? Like pourable but not all reacting ekcessively during the pour. you can get lab clamps to hold it at the proper angle instead of holding it. I use a larger collection and to scrape is a bit of a pain. but to scrape out makes me a shetteryier than me doing it in a 2 step process. you wouldnt ever want that though. It would be almost impossible to get out at room temp.
