Newbie Equipment Question

I’m surprised you couldn’t find a taker. It wouldn’t surprise me if they have a minimum quantity, but 25lbs of trim is enough to make it worth someone’s while. Processing costs in my state are somewhere between $125-200 depending on many factors. If a reliable lab was going to run 25lbs of trim for $2500, that’s a deal you should probably take. It really depends on if you have a sales outlet for your material. If you want to bounce some questions about the dollars and sense and whether it makes sense to you, message me.

might be worth it to some. Setting up a colab where you can actually learn the trade might not make sense to folks local to you…why train their competitor? That might require a trip out of state and then you run into “licensing issues”. (If they have one, you need one, if they don’t, who the fuck are you?)

Even that may not be worth considering for many. Depends where they are and how long they’ve been at it.

Great extracts take great inputs, and strain specificity, or at least well executed blends. Can you mange 5lbs of any one strain?

Honing my craft when I was using dribs and drabs left over from patient distribution each month inspired building a database and barcoding those 1/8ths or 1/4rs and storing them in chest freezers. Time to extract, what do we have the most of/enough of?!? …but I’d been required in a grant to build such a system during grad school, so the hardest part was finding labels that worked in the freezer (and convincing the boss to pay for them).

That was before the state required I barcode….it was also when I was progressing from a 3x36 Mk III terp I’d had fabricated locally following @Graywolf’s plans. To a $20k “comes with certs” PX1. Finding 5lb strain specific to feed that thing was non-trivial at first. So I grabbed some parts (voided our certs), and used the DB to define the optimal column to run.

No need to out yourself, but it does change the equation. If you’re legally allowed to grow for patients, and actually care about getting them meds, fucking that up by not following the rules on extraction would be the wrong move. (Wrong move that shut down that PX1? Wrong name on a license renewal and failure to respond to notice of such in 30days…).

Med in Oregon allows etoh & squish at home, and can be licensed to perform the other stuff commercially for the medical market. Not sure if anyone has started offering toll processing for med grown extract yet.

Actually, 30% fat beef is great for burgers…More of a skillet patty than a griller due to flare ups, but yum yum…

But, onto the topic of CRC, I view my job as making the most appealing, best flavored, best looking products I can with the biomass at hand. Some of that requires CRC. I can get with you that I’ll choose fire biomass everytime, but that’s not my job. My job is to maximize profits by utilizing all classes of biomass available to make safe, appealing products that will sell in the market I have. I view that as living in reality. Sometimes I scrub, sometimes I don’t. It takes a careful evaluation of the product and good judgement.

Crappy CRC has given CRC a crappy reputation.

The $2500 for 25lbs was to process for Rosin. That was the only company that would even entertain the idea of processing for a patient near me (within a 1.5 hour drive). I wasn’t even able to find a BHO company willing to help. It was extremely surprising, especially because so many of these license holders brand themselves as “patients first” or “patients before profits”.

To me, 25lbs of trim & larf is not a small amount at all. Yes, I’m sure these companies work with hundreds of lbs on the regular. But my point is, I was asking someone to do a 1lb run. I was wanting 25lbs run, and exactly how long would it take some of those companies to actually process 25lbs? Is it really that big of a time hit?

Sorry for rant, I’m not frustrated with y’all, I’m frustrated with the industry. Maybe it’s naive to wish for a better situation. I just remember growing back when everything was illegal everywhere. The folks at the grow shops and their customers would go out of their way to help one another. It was a community that wanted to help each other. It’s likely wishful thinking to still want that type of community.

Anyways! I’m okay with CRC, it doesn’t really matter to me. As long as the medicine is good. I’m really hoping a member that lives in OK will chime in on this thread and be willing to work with me. But if that doesn’t happen, I’ll bite the bullet and either purchase BHO equipment or Rosin equipment.

Sorry that this experience has made you feel small time…You aren’t…Everyone is bigger than someone and smaller than someone else. That doesn’t really matter…

As far as time consumed, at a medium scale lab like my work, it’d 1/2 a day’s work to run and then the post process time. If you were in my state, I’d run your stuff no problems if we could agree on the per pound price.

Extractors are funny creatures…really smart and helpful, but also skittish and cryptic…There are points about teaching competitors, the liability, wanting compensation for your time, etc, etc…and I don’t disagree with those…But, you aren’t in the wrong. It’s just a weird clique to break into. I hope you find what you need. And, if you go the DIY route, I’d choose rosin for the inherent safety.

Side note. Did you quote for 25 lb trim to press to rosin?

Missing order of operations. First, you extract hash, either dry sift or bubble hash. Go bubble route.

Then you press the prepared hash. So what that means is you wont press 25 lb for 25 lb of trim, you will press maybe 2lb of hash only. So less presssing to process 25 lb because you pre processed it into hash.

Make sense ?

Also means a smaller press goes a farther way.

I’ll wager that they’ll make a burger closer to 70/30 than they will 93/7. And after making burgers that are probably 80/20 or higher fat, yea they are definitely better.

I’ll pay double or nothing, my next piece of glass is free that you’ll try what I make and technically use “crc” (dry material only) and you’ll raise an eyebrow admitting it’s danky. But, I do agree with you about pretty much everyone else

Wtf, $2500 to process 25lbs?!?! Where’s that I would totally do tolls for that client. We charge $35 per pound wet or dry to process. 25lbs is one run(on my system) do for self bro don’t get robbed.

Yup. I charge at least $100 lb (for dry) to toll process in the i502 market. Probably $85 a lb for LR.

So what exactly would I need equipment wise?

I saw this, not sure what the dewaxing is, nor the splatter plate is. I’m guessing the recovery chamber is for butane that’s been pushed through. What else would I need? Please tell me like you would a 5 year old, I’m not familiar with lingo or terminology yet.

I saw the option to get a vacuum oven and pump on there, I know I’m supposed to use that to purge after extraction. But I don’t understand the nitrogen assistance, and don’t I need a compressor pump of some kind to get the butane back into the original container?

So the dewaxing column, you fill with dry ice in the outer sleeve. You run your butane into that and let the dry ice chill the butane and extract. Causing the fats to coagulate and you can then filter them out by sending the solution through a filter located at the bottom of the column and before your collection pot.

The splatter platter is a part of your collection pot. The bottom part. It makes it so you can disassemble the platter from the rest of the pot for easy access to the wax inside of it. Makes pouring way less messy with less loss since it won’t get stuck on the side of the collection pot

Your recovery chamber, better known as your solvent tank is what will be the vessel that holds the butane before and after the run is completed. It’s just a stainless steel butane tank. A fancy can of butane essentially

With this set up all you will need (if you’re running fire) is a fresh tank of butane, and a way to purge. So either a vacuum chamber on the cheap end. To a vacuum oven. And a vacuum pump. I’d also get some extra stainless braided hoses when you get the kit. You will need one for sure to connect to the vacuum pump to vacuum down the system before you run.
You will also need to get some filter paper or filter media like Celite 545

And you will need to get dry ice every time you want to run

You can use a recovery pump for recovery (called running active). But honestly for a system that size running passive is a better answer and cheaper upfront costs.

You’ll recover using dry ice and manipulating pressures in the closed loop.

Interesting. So given the link I posted above to his store, using the drop down options will get me absolutely everything I need to do a run minus the N-Butane itself, dry ice, and filter material of some kind? Is that basically correct?

Also what is the nitrogen assistance do?

Ok. Nitrogen assist. You will want that. I forgot you will need a nitrogen tank and regulator but you can get a small one local.

Basically when butane is in a tank at normal room temperature the pressure is about 30-60 psi depending on the blend of butane.
So when you chill butane on dry ice the pressure drops all the way to 0 psi or even less depending on how cold you get it. So you’re going to shoot room temp butane into the dewaxing column that has weed in it. And also dry ice in the outer sleeve. You will then let the tane cool and that will make the pressure drop. So In order to shoot the butane and wax into the collection pot we need nitrogen to add pressure on top of the column. The pressure raises and shoots it into the collection pot.
Alternatively for a cheaper setup and cheaper up front costs, you can skip the dewaxing column all together and chill the butane tank on dry ice and just shoot the ice cold butane from the tank into a regular column and into your collection pot.
But I don’t see an option to add a recovery gank to the cheaper set up. Maybe if you ask @Killa12345 really nice he might plug you with what you need

Yes that drop down menu should have you covered. For the oven. Do you plan on making diamonds? Honestly you can purge diamonds in a vacuum chamber for 100$. If you plan on making shatter I’d get an oven. And I’d get an oven eventually anyway. But if you don’t need it out the gate why not save some money

I probably won’t be making diamonds. It sounds more like a fun experiment rather than something I’d do all the time honestly. I’d be more interested in doing CRC than anything related to diamonds. I’d probably be doing shatter, or crumble or baddar, stuff like that holds way more interest to me.
