If you want cheap and comparable, bridgelux gen 2 strips are crazy cheap.

They’re technically less efficient, but once you start running samsung dioes at the higher draw, then the bridgelux strips start to pull ahead.

And if you wanna get really cheap, you can buy open frame power supplies.

The controller is like any other controller.

I’ve been building diy led’s since cobs were the rage, I’m pretty familiar with the technology.

Don’t get me wrong, those bars are neat, but the only thing special about em to me is the diode layout.

I’m suspect of all the claimed cri values as well. After @square_root_pharms mentioned one manufacturer stated the 90cri lmb301’s are unavailable, yet numerous manufacturers claim they had em.

I asked a tech savy friend about the roi lights and he said he was concerned about the specs being legit, as they were not verified by independent labs.

The frame is different. The aluminum bars are flat on top not finned. The diode layout is different. I understand diodes are the same in many lights but I would trust an American company before some Alibaba seller even if using/selling the same components.
The $279 add on controller is not like any other controller. I have watched vids on it.
The closest I know of is the Gavita controller but still not the same features.

Diodes are diodes. And pictures are always gonna be different than what you get.

The pictures of that light are from 2016, who knows what they look like now.

This is the equivalent of buying a windows pc. It’s all the same parts no matter what the outside looks like

I only ride your ass about this because you seemed to be super eager to shit on other people’s suggestions. You don’t even have an led light to compare anything to from my understanding, so all you can do I compare numbers.

I’ve been building and buying these lights for awhile now, and I am a little more familiar with them than you I’d bet.

I am very familiar with these things, and I’m telling you that light isn’t special.

Sure, if you wanna pay 2x the cost of a comparable fixture so you can have a warranty, that’s valid, but beyond that, the extra costs is unwarranted.

I owned tons of burple LEDs and they all sucked. Also used COBs and I feel those are better than burple. That LED draws 450w. Compare that to a 450w bar LED and no comparison. Of course the bar LED will cost 2x+ more.
I feel its not what you spend on a light(to a point) its how that light performs for the watts it draws.

Not trying to shit on anyones suggestion just trying to save people from making the same mistakes I did. Started using burple about 5 or so years ago and then COBs and now bar LEDs.
I already posted a few posts up more than once I been running 3x 10 bar Sunplix LEDs for almost 2 years so yeah I have plenty of experience with LEDs.
Its not 2x the money. The 650w Maiju linked above that BK78 is using was $1300 for 2 del. I paid $940 for a 800w bar LED that comes with a U.S warranty. Figure out per watt price and its not that big. $1/w compared to $1.12/w.

Anyone see the email? What do we know about osram LM-80 diodes? Wonder what the price point will be and how these compare to the growers choice or mammoth type US distributed lights

It looks like the osram diodes are less efficient and cheaper than Samsung LM301B or h.

Looks like LM 80 is a testing standard and not an LED model number. Here’s a link about Osram’s testing:

Osram makes some pretty good diodes that work very well in flashlights. No way to tell what diodes from the pics above. I went to growgeneration.com, and there wasn’t any additional info I could find. I would be interested in seeing what model they are using.

A lot of the Osram diodes in the flashlight world are less efficient than their competition, but they make up for it in total lumens and/or lux depending on the diode. I’ve only looked into their high power diodes, but their site looks like they have some mid power horticultural chips that they have developed. I’ll dig into it a bit.

my flashlights. are using nichia or cree xp and xph. They keep getting brighter off banggood. I know my leds are bright but Im gonna rent a par meter and test them all soon. Ill compare hps, cmh, and different led in the same tents. The china tests are obv fake because they do things like have the exact reading in each corner which isnt realistic.

I love my high cri nichia flashlights. Have one LG high cri flashlight that’s pretty nice, not quite as nice as the old nichia 219b though. Two uv lights with nichia leds, and one with an LG uv led, which has way more output. Have a BLF GT with a cree xhp35 that put out 1.2 million candlepower. Flashlights are addictive. I may be a flashaholic.

I need to get a decent lux meter for my flashlight hobbies. It would help out in the grow room, too. A par meter would be ideal for our growing uses, but it seems that a pretty decent idea of what’s going on can be had much cheaper with a lux meter and some conversion magic. I’d be interested in seeing your results if you rent or buy a decent quantum meter.

One of these days I’d like to cobble together a little home brewed multi spectrum light from high power leds in many flavors. Probably be way less efficient than using mid power emitters like most grow lights are using, but I feel that it could be the making of a killer tall sativa grow light with tons of penetration and customized spectrum.

Rocking the growers choice 720 for flower and the 420 for veg . Absolutely love them . They put out really no heat and my apogee meter shows 600+ in a 5x5 even at edges at 18 inches.

I received mine and hooked it up and immediately contacted the seller for the $940 price for 2 more. They are on the way. They run cooler than my Sunplix and the controller is sweet.

im reading and seeing different things on youtube. They show sunlight at 2400 + I need to test to see because im using all sorts of combos of led and need to see if its consistent or strong enough. I got a tent with 2 480 quantum, then I Have a 480 in the middle with 2 280 triple boards on either side. Then I could also do 3 480 or 4 280. I need to measure. they all run hotter than 2x1000 hps in same tent. I had issues when i switched to led and I was resistant to believe but I think it was actually the lights beign stronger? Now when I look at hps it looks dim?

Do you have your ballasts sitting on top of your boards? You can get those out of the tent if you use some heavy gauge wire to make longer leads from the ballast to the boards. Use as heavy gauge and shortest length possible between the ballast and boards to lessen voltage drop.
