All the things this place has done for me! I can’t even start!
Gonna give it a few I think it’s just gonna settle
are you wieghing before and after
try this, dissolve resin in hot etoh, filter the solution.
Look at the filter, if there is residue you can try dissolving it with a nonpolar soolvent and see it it dissolves.
If it dissolves with any of the solvents it is not silica.
Take the filter paper and look at it under a microscope, you can compair the particles to the silica you are useing to help id the particle based on its shape.
Most sillica particles will be roundish, the clay particles will be more jagged looking.

this is silica 60 under a microscope.

heres the clay
I blasted a slab not water clear in color but clear in vision glass clear
Dissolved a bit in etho was kinda murkey didn t give it any attention
Treu it in the freezer -86
The whole thing was yello gelatin
Opaque and oeff
Took all the slabs I had and dissolved
Serious amount of silica
Hmmm
is it silica or clay? perhaps its a collodial suspension that has made it way through?
man you should know by now w me you got to lay out the"for dummies" directions. That sounded wayyyyyy to smart for me
Use both of what exactly?
. Yep ![]()
all good man, if your suspect particle won’t dissolve in any solvent you can collect some and look at them closely with a microscope.
Bingo got it now ![]()

I could have took the filter “fats” , or what I thought was fats. Looked at under microscope and that would have told me if was fats or silica by shape
Wish I looked at mine, but mine for sure melted into ethanol
Silica does not “melt” in ethanol.
There’s a chemistry urban myth that methanol can dissolve some portion of silica…but that has been debunked more or less.
Looks like both the “big guys” have spoken!

But she told me size doesnt matter lol
Yep, definitely hanging with the boys when the dick jokes start getting thrown around! Haha
In one jar we put 1 gram of the stuff we caught in our filter and 50 mL of denatured alcohol and the other we put 1 gram of silica and 50 mL of denatured alcohol. We shook both and let sit for 15 minutes. Here’s the pics of the filter that we took the one gram from
Here’s the 1 gram from filter dissolved in the 50 mL alcohol
Here’s the one gram silica and 50 mL
And here’s both side by side
What do you guys think do you think the one gram from the filter is lipids or silica?
Heat the ethanol, if it melts and turns clear it’s fats…if powder falls to bottom it’s powders
I was advocating for using a Celite or De cake as well as a low micron (1 or lower). Just to be safe and for the fact that we change the industry from the inside. Everyone has different standards but I figure best to set them high. Ive recently seen posts on review pages of guys looking at everything through a microscope (no pun intended) so it would suck to be put on blast for an impure product, or even worse cause harm your customers.
can you capture some of the debris and subject it to solubility tests?
