So I should be using more sintered discs than just one?

What micron is it? 1 should work

Sometimes have to double or triple the paper to get a tight seal. Need a ring not a clamp in the filter stack

I use a celite cake above 11um filter paper, then 6um paper on a 5 um sintered disc, then 2 micron filter paper in the last filter stack

You’re absolutely right, you need tight rings, otherwise don’t do it at all. Lol

You mean just try winterizing it?

always use both!

Cool thing is none of those powder dissolve in tane, so if you are ever wondering if you are getting pass through you can test by running your system at the pressure you would usually run at with just a powder. Any powders will be visible

I’d love for that to be fat, for your sake. Take some of that silica/fat and put it in ethanol. If it melts it’s fat, if it’s silica it’ll stay the same

Actually, doesn’t silica melt in etho?

If you do have passthrough its an easy fix. Dissolve, chill and refilter. Silica seems to swell in cold tane

this is key. I like to wash my cake with 5 mic in place then run smaller filters below on the real run. always cleaning equipment between.

I don’t think silica will melt in ethanol but I’m not certain

yeah they wouldn’t use it in all the etho applications if it could dissolve and contaminate end product.

I swear I remember someone talking about that happening. That’s what I was working off. Again, happily incorrect! Test that shit @mr_pickles
