First reported death due to CBD drug interactions, brace yourselves

this part of the report seems to hit the nail on the head:

" In our case, the patient has previously utilized other commercial CBD products without side effects or associated allergic reactions. This suggests involvement of other ingredients in this non-FDA-regulated product as the causative agent. The complete chemical analysis from the patient’s commercial CBD oil was not performed. In addition, our case also had minimal ocular involvement compared to other mucocutaneous surfaces."

Was taking it for inflammation related to my herniated discs. Did not even come close to providing the same relief as THC/CBD.

so I just went and re-read the paper

She took a sublingual

This avoids hepatic first pass metabolism

If she really did use it as directed there should not be cp450 interaction right?

If grapfruit with meloxicam (or P450 modulators) is deadly, and CBD with meloxicam is deadly… I would say meloxicam is the unsafe drug here.

Aren’t cp450 enzymes present in most tissues of the body? Idk

I remember I was taking meloxicam for my RA. Thc had zero drug interactions with meloxicam.
At least in my body I didnt have any.

The answer to every legal question is “it depends.” And then you go from there. Civil liability would be a much bigger concern than criminal. Some states have laws that say any illegal activity is negligent if you get sued. You don’t get to argue guilt or innocence, and go straight to assessing damages. Also, don’t expext an llc to be an invincible shield against your personal assets if illegal activity is alleged.

One of the many problems in selling over the Internet is that you expose yourself to the laws of every state in which you have a customer, and those state laws can vary widely. Of course clear Federal law guidance would override that, but we dont have it.

I just showed this to our D.O. who is also a very experienced formulator. He wasn’t at all surprised that she died from Stevens-Johnson Syndrome with her pharma-cocktail plus CBD. He said it is most definitely a horrible and painful way to go. To CYA, he advises put on your label something along the lines of, “Consult with a physician before using this product or any other product containing CBD.” That will most likely cover you legally on this and any other unforeseen issue down the line, shifting any blame to the consumer and their physician.

Ive been hearing that for almost a year now.

The interaction with co450 is many times less when taken sublingually than absorbed via the gut

Absolutely all about the dose! I remember someone dying a while back from drinking too much water.
The leaves from a tomato plant are quite toxic if concentrated.

Inhalation or oral consumption?

I did both. Edibles and dabs/joints.

I havent been on that ra med since 2008 iirc. I went thru at least 8x ra meds and iv infusions. All while eating edibles and smoking.

So true!

I am prescribed this drug for carpal tunnel Lake pain in my right hand. It had tes of thousands of dollars of tests done and doctors still can’t source the pain. They perscribed me Meloxicam to reduce inflammation and help manage the pain. This also happens to be the reason I was given my medical card. I wouldn’t take the meloxicam unless I was having a really high pain day and at that point I’d usually already tried CBD first.

All NSAIDs have the Stevens-Johnson syndrome warning and Meloxicam is especially bad. Most doctors are afraid to prescribe it for fear a patient will still take an over the counter as well. All drug interactions should always be checked. There have been interaction warnings for over the counter natural supplements for as long as I can remember. This isn’t any different. Sad, but everyone needs to be careful.

So OTC drugs like Advil, which is the chemical Ibuprofen, and Aleve, which is naproxen sodium, can both cause similar reactions if used in conjunction with CBD, THC, CNB?

If so, what is the dose one would have to take to cause an effect like that?

Do you use any cbd topicals?

And this question goes out to everyone here, does using a topical product present less risk of adverse reactions with rx drugs, as compared to injesting the oil?
