I’m surprised this site has taken this long to show up on the radar of investigative journalists to be totally honest

From the home town. Gas stations/Kwik-E Marts raided for (what was probably sold to them as) hemp

Looks like another conviction upheld with a gc/Ms post-decarb test, I haven’t bought the transcripts to find the excerpts because they’re like $100 all together and exempt from the $3 file max on PACER for some reason

@DrMark any insights?

DSHS is still fighting hometown hero in court over the d8 rule injunction from years back, they’re trying to get the universal injunction removed so that any injunction will only apply to the plaintiff. I’d imagine they’re going to try something similar here, if the injunction is successful

I am really confused about how someone with less than 2 years experience total in the industry as a whole - and not even the hemp industry - would be qualified to dissect cannabis or hemp. Or run a consulting business? Like it’s great that he took pictures of weed but like this dude doesn’t even really have much experience doing that

"I asked Max two key questions right from the start, how long he’s been doing cannabis/lifestyle photography, as well as his reasons for taking up the cannabis aspect. He said that he’s been shooting for quite some time now. “I’ve been doing photography for about eight to ten but making money off of it for about five years. For cannabis, it’s only been about two years.” "

So, as of 2020 the guy had no hands-on interactions with plants or a management role anywhere - was just a photographer for weed. But then after 1yr and 10 months at a farm that doesn’t exist anymore he can call the shots on where the industry is going? Seriously? How are you going to have a frame of reference after only 1 yr and 10 months of working with the plant other than through a lens?

This is extremely perplexing to me considering we have a lot of members here that have MULTIPLE decades with hands-on experience with indoor farms, outdoor grows, light dep grows, etc but aren’t out trying to do post-mortems on industries that they have been a part of their entire lives pretty much. How are these platforms given to people who really have a stark lack of experience doing anything, much less randomly showing up as a manager one day at a farm that’s no longer there.

Idk. The industry always seemed built for failure from a legislative perspective and out of touch with reality.

imo, All of the nonsense, bullshit conversions and loophole jumping are a direct result of the economic dissonance in the framework. It’s my opinion that prohibitive framework increases the output of bad/harmful ideas that people come up with as a result of trying to make a profit. (When imo the legislation could be based off, what makes financial sense, product quality control and state interests)

I also believe individual states framework promoted the shitty import dynamics of hemp industry, in that states who tried to ban growers from growing THCa hemp only made themselves a target for importing shitty quality THCa products etc. so from my standpoint: legislation built under the guise of protecting state interests genuinely only promoted the opposite effect for the most part. (Go figure)

So I think together everyone as a whole destroyed it and I don’t think it was an accident. And based off my theory that being more prohibitive and higher restrictions will result directly in people trying to get more creative, which is probably not a good thing.

probably the same way that people who do PR and create UGC get picked

pushing products stronger than those in rec markets in states that are openly hostile to cannabis probably set progress back on the licensed side quite a bit, legislative priorities shifted to stopping that problem rather than moving forward with a licensed market that isn’t built on scams or loopholes

I think total THC takes care of a lot issues in general at the biomass/material stage.

I think what should be done is to adopt realistic standards that distinguish genuine non-intoxicating full spec hemp extracts vs intoxicating.

From a CBD only operator perspective: Compliant biomass does not result in a compliant extract in most cases. The industry framework has been built around the 0.3% thing. I genuinely think my full spec is some of the highest quality products that we produce but at 1.6-3% thc too hot to sell.

Options are to formulate, or to isolate. Isolate resulting in more waste streams (mother), more time & money in processing. Waste streams either being loss or requiring remediation(lower quality imo).

The compliant route has a lot of waste-based-inflation. Has always felt like being penalized for following the rules in a way. And I think a framework that doesn’t position companies (who are following the rules) for success is what can result in bad actors “creative problem solving”.

How many waste streams does the traditional cannabis industry have? Do you guys have mother liquor waste or is that considered HTE in traditional cannabis industry? (Genuinely asking)

I wonder if cbd companies were allowed to sell full spec extracts, like if the framework was total THC only, so only genuine hemp strains were grown, but rather than lower the THC limit we increased it so that the companies could sell their genuine non-intoxicating hemp products. If they could have legally sold full spec, would they even have spent the time figuring out conversions at scale etc?

With a good still you can compliantly reduce cannabinoid waste down to nearly zero, your main waste streams would be spent biomass and filter media. Some jurisdictions also charge for VOC emissions if you want to call that a waste stream but the cost is pretty negligible.
