@Distillforeal you don’t have to prewash your media if your filtration is adequate. Staging filtration after the media is pseudo redundant, as going through the media is deeper filtration than most of our filters. But after the media having a series of discs will prevent any media slippage. Using a 5 micron, to a 1 micron, to a 0.2 micron to finish off will prevent any media from making it through.

0.2 micron. That’s pretty hard to get any media or silica through. Jokingly and seriously, if anything is capable of getting through my last stage of filtration, I want to dab it.

Idk about yall but back in the day when I would pack a bunchner funnel with clay and wash it with ethanol the ethanol would come out hazy even though it passes through a 1 micron paper. These absorbent leach residue yet VERY RARLY IS IT MENTIONED

So what one is it? Acid residue or silica residue? We’ve all mentioned the silica and how it’s not this dangerous thing, but then you moved residue to be leftovers from acid activated medias.

Now, for the pour-- Get the slurry in your bucket very well agitated and flowing then quickly dump the slurry into the buchner on top of the filter paper. Use a bit of reserve ethanol to rinse out the remaining bentonite and dump it right into the buchner as well. You will get a bunch of bypass when you first pour. The reality is that even with a paper filter the clay is so fine that it will pass through. You basically need to overwhelm the filter with clay so that it backs up enough that the clay builds up on top. Then it becomes self-filtering. Once you’ve set a good bentonite cake use the same ethanol and bucket to make an AC slurry and repeat the process. If your bentonite cake is solid then you should see no AC in the vacuum flask. You want to use enough AC that it makes approximately 1/8th to 1/4 inch layer on top the bentonite. You can use more and go thicker to gain longevity with the filter, but you will lose speed and increase the time your extract spends in contact with the AC. I usually pour the same ethanol twice for the bentonite then again for the AC. The first pour is muddy brown, the second pour is cloudy, and the final pour is crystal clear. Once it comes out clear I leave the pump on for an hour or so to dry out and firm up the cake.

Which is the way they teach it in chemistry classes last time I checked (admittedly more than 30 years ago).

When setting a Buchner filter, you can get powder pulling through making it hazy, but repeatedly moving the same ethanol through the filter will set the filter so that nothing more comes through. You could it to come through clean the first time if your filter at the bottom had fine enough pores.

A proper CRC should either have a fine enough sintered disk at the bottom to keep any solids from moving through, or a staged filter that would do the same.

Ultra-Fine particulate making it into a final product, in an amount that is not even visible, should not worry you. Breathing the air in Cali right now is going to pose more of a harm.
