Luckily Sigma Aldrich won’t ship that to just any facility. I would assume, and hope, that only a trained chemist would attempt to synthesize it themselves. For the rest of us, we’re at the whim of Sigma…

its not hard to synth but it is more than someone who has not practice chem for bit could do I think
so I would not be too worried about people who are not with a clue making it.

but a lot of people here were from the underworld before cannabis was legal and they can
get what ever sigma offers license or not,.

I once had a strip of lithium in a lab stand that I lit with a map torch.

I had the stand stupidly on the window sill at the time (very early in my schooling it was)

melted the stand and the window then the window blew up (like blew up blew up)

a heap of sand end up stopping the fire on the wooden window sill lighting the whole flat up.

fire is dangerous that is for sure.

just to clarify 1 1/2 hours is 1.5 hours.

the more acid the more dirt your going to make.

I get more colour in the product the stronger the acid.

it may be that using a even weaker dilution and much longer reaction times (like 12 hours +)
will give clear d8

I didn’t get some one to try the 1 hour reaction so I have not been given any spectra of it.

so maybe 30 min is the best time for d9.

ok I am having trouble finding the raman spectra for delta 8.

I know its in two databases that are paid for one I know is from stellarnet the other I have forgoten the
name.

but it shows that delta 8 and 9 are able to differentiated via raman now.

someone will have to get a sample from cayman chemicals so we can get the spectra.

in fact I might have to arrange to get quite a few of the cayman cannabinoids as they have quite a lot.

Hey Sorry for the late response, I was really into the experiment and sometimes the Real Live came up in between :slight_smile:

I have now carried out several tests, including of course the “test every 30 minutes” ^^.

In all tests I have now used the approximate 0.1 mol. As a 0.37-0.4% hydrochloric acid solution. (~ 0.1 mol as an interim solution

feels good to me, because I work with 37% hydrochloric acid, and of course it is easy to add 1 ml of concentrated acid to 100 ml of IPA

Mix. With such small “test quantities” the fluctuations are of course stronger in relation, so realistically I am about 0.35 to

0.4 percent acid concentration …;).

I only started without inert gas. Process like yours (just did a little more washes).
Just a little less CBD per 100 ml IPA at the beginning. I took 6g of CBD on 300 ml of IPA and 3 ml of 37% acid, only added when everything was ready

(hot) and then added to the flask.

The reaction started almost immediately because the flask, water bath and adapter were already heated. (ok mathematically anyway 2/3

Minutes later … with more solution you have to add another 1 or 2 minutes until the solution has the temperature and the same

reacts …).
Each test was ended so that the solution was cooled in 3 to 4 times as much water and then all the washes were carried out

(HCO3 is okay to slowly reduce the PH several times if you then wash several times with water and at the end with it

Salt water dries ??? I’m a little unsure if that’s enough ^^).

With the (exhausting) “test every 30 minutes” and about 2g CBD per 100ml IPA, I came to “moderate” after 45 minutes with the KOH (strip test)

to slightly high "purple reaction, went slowly but after 3 or 4 minutes pink came first and then at some point clear purple.
I took the next sample 35 minutes later (after a total of 95 minutes), this sample gave almost no reaction in the KOH test.

I would say after more than 10 minutes a light pink / purple shimmer came slowly, but hardly any real reaction. Sample 3 and 4 (after

another 30 or 60 minutes) resulted in a very very similar picture,
after very many minutes at most a minimal color change. Sometimes I thought it would be purple, but it was more brownish … I think

Samples 3 and 4 were already superfluous, sample 2 had already passed the perfect point.
(I wasn’t exactly why there were 4 samples even though I only had 300 ml, each sample had less, probably around 60 to 80 ml …)

So I assumed the reaction had to be somewhere between 45 minutes and 95 minutes to complete. I was happy about that

Stupidly (very unscientific - I know) I started the next test in a higher concentration (more CBD per 100ml IPA,

now 5g per 100ml instead of 2g per 100ml as before), because I thought the difference between 55 minutes and 95 minutes was more important than that
