Why not just splurge for ecogreen non denatured.
200 proof is illegal in Michigan.
wow thatās odd. i never knew that.
Yeah. I have to drive to Indiana to get everclear/ethanol.
That drive is what makes me want to drive just 15 minutes down the road to usalabs to get the 95% ethanol/5 % heptane mix.
Thanks to a generous participant of this forum I may have to do neither however. ![]()
I told ya I know the secret hand shake.
I have a new unopened 5g bucket of 200 proof food grade ethanol if you need.
I know my friend. You are that said generous forum participant I was speaking of. Just didnāt want to put it out on blast. ![]()
Super appreciate it and will for sure be in touch soon for exactly that.
I took everything apart because I wanted to do a better job of securing the counter the still will be setup on. I also need one last adapter, and I should be ready to go.
Still working on the process. I like to document the process when I learn things, before I do them. Then while Iām doing it, I can make notes and then adjust for the next time. Will come back once I have my the process I intend to go with.
Iām in the market for a vacuum pump to purge shatter with
Can anyone recommend a decent vacuum pump oil?

Just wanted to thank you all for helping me figure things out. After a very long time researching and gathering parts, I am going to take the jump, and give a First Pass a shot.
In particular, I wanted to thank @Killa12345 specifically for the āSuccess is on the far side of failureā spirit. This is exactly how I intend to proceed. Yes, Iāve been reading and researching for just about 3 years now, and have spent the last several months selling shit to be able to afford the parts I wound up buying. Anyway, I totally expect that I will fail, but that wonāt stop me, Iāll learn from whatever mistake caused the failure and keep trying until I succeed! Anyway, tank you Killa for that. Its exactly how I approach my real job, and seeing your words as you did your first pass made me immediately carry that principle to this experiment.
So, I have all the parts. I had everything put together, just needed the adapter for my vac gauge. However, I wasnāt happy with the table the still was setup on. I felt it wasnāt stable enough. Probably paranoia, but better safe than sorry with expensive glass and product riding on it. I disconnected the still and put it back in the box. Then I mounted the table to the wall and reinforced the legs. I can put my big fat ass up on it (all 155lbs). That should be plenty support!
Tonight my goal is to get everything put back together, and then test the vacuum level. Is it ok to run it with nothing in the BF? Common sense tells me yes, but figured I would ask just to be safe. My goal is to see where I am at from a vacuum level point of view, and tighten and tweak.
If I donāt hear from anyone by tomorrow, Iām going to jump in anyway. But I did want to take the time to thank @Killa12345, @Eastcoaststrange for their first pass threads, as well as @Roguelab and @Soxhlet and the others who contributed to their threads. I canāt name everyone, those are those are the names of the folks I copy/pasted notes to my work instruction.
Anyway, here we goā¦ā¦ Totally yesterdays news fore you pros, but I am excited to give it a try, and learn. I love a good science experiment!
You all may be wondering why I am thanking folks before I have had any success. Pretty cocky, some would think. Well, I learned a few years back that you just never know when itāll be time to jump off this life and onto the next. I kinda did, but then decided I wasnāt ready to be gone, and so came back to life. Since, Iāve been very eager to thank those who pass on good energy (the spoons), cuz you just never know if youāll get the time down the road.
Anway, I was reading up on the notes I have taken from reading all the great research I came upon, on this forum as well as others. I had that feeling that I had better thank you guys. Again, you just never now when its time to go, you know?
Hey, look, theres a vacuum pump, and a flashlight. The flashlight was a recommendation I saw in a thread somewhere, made by @Roguelab. Agreed, a flash light can always come in handy!
Yes it will once all your glass is wrapped in foil a peek hole is all you have and some light is useful ![]()
You ll do great yust run it by the book
Well winterized crude
