Would you rather

dab an ~80% TAC+terps extract with ~100-500ppm of butane/propane in it?

or

dab an ~80% TAC+terps extract with ~100-500ppm of microplastics in it?

EDIT: Let’s assume they’re made with the same starting material.

Me, I’ll still smoke em both, any day… I ain’t picky lol.

but curious to hear what others think.

If I had a choice it’s always going to be rosin. I prefer less adulteration of the final product. By my experience, hydrocarbon extracts have a certain flavor/quality to them that make them less pleasant to me when compared to pressed or even ethanol extracts. I’ve tried a variety of concentrates over the years, my own and those made by others, and generally just don’t like hydrocarbon extracts as much, though I’ll go for it if it’s a strain I’m particularly interested in.

Also at this point it’s pretty much impossible to avoid microplastics.

I hear ya!

Like I said, I like em both. If someone had a gun to my head and made me choose tho, I’m probably going BHO. something about melting and inhaling the microplastics seems worse to me… the tane/pane is probably boiling off as soon as it touches that nail.

this hypothetical scenario also assumes that the potencies are the same, which typically isn’t the case. usually the BHO will be a higher % of TAC+terps.

but by no means does that mean I am turning down any rosin dabs

i havent smoke rosin in a few years… every once in a while ill take a few dabs of some diamonds and terps but even then im not a huge fan of dabbing. I think BHO has always been a cleaner and higher potency product than rosin.

Personally i think distillate is cleaner than both. I prefer to smoke disty blunts all day every day.

i smoke a lot of distillate in blunts but i wont even vape it. just eat and disty blunts.

Honestly there’s eventually gonna be ways to squeeze the trichs dry without bags even entering the equation. I’ve had a few ideas but no time to chase it down and prototype anything.

I just dab plastic bottles and take the middleman out of it.

I think hydrocarbons might more so be utilized today as remediation for lesser quality flower in today’s medical market.
Resulting in majority garbage live resin
(in my locale)

At one point in time everyone was blasting their whole crops to live and running the best material they had, I assume this is not the live resin model used by organizations today.

Live rosin crops are inherently more selective for what works and I think this results in a better quality product for people who know what they are doing.

I have a pretty decent stash of medical live resins and live rosins that I consider to be unsmokeable quality. I almost exclusively buy live rosin from only 2 brands due to the lack of market quality.

I think if people were blasting fire to live resin then I might buy that compared to live rosin, but I just don’t see it in the market.

good point! not wrong there. can’t really put lipstick on a pig with rosin like you can with crc.

Let’s assume the live resin and live rosin are made from the same material… what say you then??

For sure. I think it’s here already. Hashcru is selling a press with a ss mesh chamber of some sort that you put the hash in before pressing.

You know that could be the case, the MA market is rife with low quality flower that just gets blasted. Probably why I really haven’t had many good resin experiences.

I’m similar. I don’t dab a ton anymore. just smoke joints most of the time. I do love me any sort of live resin/rosin, or some good bubble, in a joint tho :fire:

I saw that but haven’t really poked around into it yet, hoping to have some time to mad science some shit soon

:eyes: dude keep us posted.

I’d follow you into the mists of Avalon when it comes to making solventless.

Haha I appreciate it man! I am just a turbopothead that just wants to make the best stuff he can

I think given the data bho would probably make more sense, but that’s a genuinely tough question I would want to try them both lol

TBH i personally think whatever they were doing in like 2014-2016 Colorado live resin, everyone should start doing whatever the heck they were doing back then.
(Did CRC exist back then?)

Pretty sure washing with peroxide is the lipstick equivalent for rosin.

I started extracting in 2015, in Colorado. So, to hear that makes my heart warm lol. It was another couple of years at least before I heard of CRC.

like you said, a lot of people started just using shit material and lightening it up. before that, everyone was doing for live resin runs, what people now do for rosin. growing and harvesting to ensure ideal extraction material.

You still out here?

I’m not. I moved out to St. Louis about 3 years ago. Missouri market was crazy at the time lol. $10-15k liters of disty

I made that post on my Insta because there are few rosin only boys out there who have a pretty strong opinion on BHO without having anything to back it up. Smoke whatever you wish but the issue that I had is the façade that is a cleaner extract than BHO. There are some pretty important factors to me like how the flower is grown how it’s processed and then of course, yes, the extraction method, but when you grow with an entire salt nutrient line and then wash in plastic bags and press in plastic and claim it’s cleaner because no solvent is used shows your arrogance in basic science. So the claim that it is cleaner is complete bullshit. I have talked with Hashcru and he gets it and seems to be one of the only one who has made improvements to get around these current rosin issues, but it’s gonna take a little time for everyone to get onto that level. Meanwhile, everyone who smokes rosin and all the rosin that they have smoked in the past has had micro plastic contamination, which I’m sure is God awful for you to be inhaling into your lungs especially when they push how clean it is for you

well said. I agree with you. and I appreciated you posting it.

not here to shit on anyone’s preferences at all, I love me some rosin too lol.. but apples to apples, the whole “rosin is cleaner” thing is just undeniably untrue.
