very nice glass porn tho
so much length!! makes sense what you’re experiencing.

hey just noticed that you have an amber receiving flask on the cold trap for that rig, what are you distilling that needs glassware for light sensitivity??
and without everything else being amber, doesnt that kinda defeat the purpose?
Oh that is definitely not one of ours. And not configured for THC/CBD.
Column is too long and too narrow. Insulation and active heating (heat tape) may help.
I agree with some of the other comments that the batch size is probably too small. You need a decent amount of material in the column to warm it up.
Yes, you should remove terps and ethanol before going to full vac. Otherwise you may struggle to bring the pressure down and you will foul your pump oil quickly.
My first thought is to stay away from using LN2. Liquid oxygen and organics go boom boom…Liquid Argon will give you similar temps while not condensing oxygen vapors.
Potentially dumb question, but if they’re the same weight, how do they remediate THC from CBD distillate?
I saw distillation columns with a length of 30 cm and 10 seperating stages. My column has 1 m length and 50 theoretical seperation stages. I guess the column Size is too long. Which amount of extract would you propose for this Spinning Band System . I am really thankfull for your Help/ideas.
Which problems do you See in this Spinning Band System in general expect the other points you told before ?
Why do you say that this spinning Band is not configurated for THC/CBD?
But from the photos his CT looks fairly isolated. Not sure if it’s an issue
What are costs w/ liquid argon vs nitrogen?
The distillation column is silver coated and has a vacuum Jacket.
Certainly not by distillation. If that was possible, there wouldn’t be those boatloads of money in the remediation business.
It is not oxygen inside the system that we are worried about condensing. Under high vac you won’t be making liquid o2 even at extreme cold.
“ Both of these problems cause dangerous situations. The oxygen cloud accelerates combustion, so a person exposed to liquid oxygen could set her clothes on fire by smoking a cigarette immediately after exposure. If a vehicle drives over asphalt that has been impregnated by liquid oxygen, the impact of the tires on the oxygen-enriched asphalt causes a massive explosion.”
There are safe way to use liquid nitrogen in the lab for sure. But there are more risks than frostbite and asphyxiation. Dry ice also does the trick without being so cold that you get a clog or constriction.
Not sure about costs, don’t use either. I don’t think it is massively different for lab scales.
Primarily those reasons. Long and narrow column are what is making heatup take forever and throughput slow.
So your column is wider and shorter? Do you use heating Jacket/ heating tape with Isolation from the outside of your columns? Thank your for your Help.

Which column Size would you prefer for Cannabis distillation?
Here check out this link: Lab Scale Distillation Equipment Models Comparison | B/R Instrument (brinstrument.com)
Our first column for cannabinoids was 21 mm. We now use 32 mm, 50 mm, and some custom larger ones.
The length of the spinning band itself is approx 30 cm/12 in.
Both of these lead to an average pot/vapor temp delta of 15-25 C during main body.
Thank you very much. And how much Extrakt you were using for these colums to get these difference between pot and vapor temperature?
