Who here has raised pigs?

I bet his pigs taste substantially better than what most can find at their local supermarkets. I know his pigs will be eating pumpkin in a few weeks. Bet they are sweet pigs at butchering.

This is a terrible take and tbh this attitude is part of what is wrong with societies current relationship with their meat. I love my pigs, it may be different than I love a human, dog, or any other non livestock animal, but it’s still love. These animals feed my family and our community, supply income, improve our land and give our children memories they won’t ever forget. I am beyond thankful for that. What am I supposed to do? Treat them like shit?

Go raise animals, spend time with them daily, butcher them yourself and get back to me. If you still feel the same way then there is something wrong with you.

The disconnect from the reality of food is a seriously concerning part of our society.

No matter where your food comes from, animals die for it. At least when you raise them yourself you can guarantee they had the best life possible

I don’t butcher animals I raise that have the capacity to experience emotions like trust and compassion. And I don’t eat pork. thanks anyway tho

All animals are not created equal. That’s why I don’t eat mammals

No he should not kill them. You’re missing the point entirely. If you want to raise animals to eat try a salmon pool or even chickens would be a better option, as far a morality and health

I bet you’d mess up this test:

I don’t care about intelligence when choosing an animal to consume. I care about its capacity for emotions like love and trust. According to the point your trying to make the punishment for murdering a human should be based on the iq of a person

I care about its capacity for emotions like love and trust

Oh someone cuddles a chicken. That changes everything… retard

Couple potential keepers. These ones are each totally different genetics so it will be fun to see how they grow out.

This gilts build is money. Short snout, thick, low to the ground. Going to Breed her with our new boar that we kept from the longer stock and should get some really nice piglets.

I loved my pigs and chickens and was the one who butchered them. I always thanked them for what they provided for us. I know what went on our table was handled humanely and with the best care.

Some lookers there, @Pupparoo !

I wholly agree with @AgTonik and @Pupparoo here.

I’ve raised animals and loved them. And recognized their immense value to my family. And treated them with kindness up to and including making sure their death was humane.

I’ve also lived a meat free life when I couldn’t raise my own animals. And I’ve made relationships with small farmers to get access to local, humanely raised meats.

I can understand if people don’t want to eat animals - especially if they cannot raise them themselves. And in the same way that my family thanks the animals we hunt for the food they will provide to us, we thank the animals we raise for all their provide.

Which is a pretty long list of things. Eating back overgrown pasture. Giving back nitrogen to the soil. Scratching and kicking to turn the soil. Nibbling down all those pests. The list really could just go on.

Sometimes I think people forget that we domesticated animals for many reasons. And sometimes I think that many people who now eat fake meats (as most that don’t eat animals aren’t just eating beans and such) forget that those fake meats come from mono-farms that are eroding the planet, while destroying the water system with salts, killing off the native wildlife through clear cutting, and then heavily processed across multiple facilities with usually 3 or more trips across the ocean worth of additional carbon emissions built in.

If I had to choose between raising my own animals kindly for slaughter - pigs, cows, sheep, chickens or rabbits - or walking the trendy no meat path of hyper processed soybeans and cow peas, I definitely choose raising my own.

Thanks for sharing the great footage Pupparoo. Its been a real treasure to see you sharing your family farm and all the wonderful food you are producing. <3

Been a good week on the farm. Sold eight 4 month olds and 6 weaners. Shocked that even this time of year we were able to sell them at a good price and come out sitting really good. Butchered a boar and a sow last week for dog food. Took 5 feeder pigs to the butcher for l people’s custom cuts and then the last 3 days we have gotten 8 butchered ourselves. Freezers are almost full and feeling like we are ready for winter. Have 2 more feeders to do tomorrow and 1 more sow to do on Saturday. Should be sitting really well after that!

On another topic, The mountain opens next week and I’m about to switch gears lol. Last big push on farm shit before winter.
