What was the most interesting thing you heard at MJBizCon?

Labconco has a vacuum centrifuge concentrator think it’s called centrivap, bet they’ve had it for a decade or two at least.

Centrifugal evaporator. It’s been around for a while. The main advantage is drying multiple samples at once. If you have a single large batch rotovaps are a better choice.

Labonco says the centrivap was first manufactured in 1991

I was using (the savant version?) in ‘84, and similar devices were in most labs by the time I hit grad school in ‘90

Changed my life, too. Those were definitely the days, doing all this stuff living under the fear of being put in jail under the same auspices as running a meth lab, but we all still did it and damn the torpedoes.

I remember FatherEarth, SkyHighler, JColtrane, hammalama and a bunch of others that all contributed in those days. GW was definitely the godfather, and we were all hanging on his every word. I best most of those users are here now, we just don’t talk about it enough.

Good luck trying to sue China in most ip cases. A lot of Chinese money is in the US though. I know when I wire my Chinese suppliers. It’s to an American bank(Citibank). The government could freeze their money at anytime. But doesn’t. :flushed::flushed::flushed:

The government could also not let the bank of China have a us branch and do a lotta us business. But then they would have a problem in China.

Lmao they are also well experienced in taking American dollars and circumventing any American rules/ laws. It’s hilarious how we get a lesser playing field in our own country with how much they openly get away with. They’re too busy trying to tax us instead of pursuing money leaving the country. Lower hanging fruit.

we are one of the exhibitor way on the back, scanned less then 50 badges within three days. And most of them are exhibitors not visitors. The whole traffic is at least 50% less then last year

Yes, especially for international exhibitors. A 20x20 booth opposite to us had less visitors and they had more then 8 employees on their booth,most of the time they had to walk out their booth or came to talk to me,they all traveled from China too , must be a big expense for them

I heard that MJ HQ couldn’t handle all those Chinese exhibitors, so they made a whole new China department just for them.

Yes,they set up a team to deal with Chinese exhibitors.

There are more Chinese exhibitors then last year while it’s mainly because of travel restriction last year. The whole traffic,both visitors and exhibitors, decreased a lot this year. You can see a lot of empty booth this year .

It seems the porosity of its heating coil is too big, most of these postless devices are more suitable for thick oil.

I just saw this question. If I recall correctly, spintech is making a “centrivap” machine. It utilizes the principle of the wide density difference between solid and gas to effectively force evaporation inversely proportional to the increasing gravitational force on the solids fraction in the centrifuge.

You might think of it like smushing a puffball fungus fruiting body or like squeezing a sponge. As you force down the solid, compacting it, you naturally force gas (or liquid… any fluid matter) and any lightweight, or lower density solid particles suspended in that fluid to rush out from inside the pores of the spongiform solid.

Centrifugal evaporation isn’t exactly the same as squishing a sponge, but just imagine the fluid could be some sort of solvent, and the solid could be some solute(s) dissolved and/or suspended in the solvent. Higher density matter (HDM) is affected by G-force more strongly than low density matter (LDM). The HDM (even if it is in a fluid state, like dissolved solute) is pulled “down”, forcing any interstitial LDM “up”.

In other words, increasing gravitational force naturally speeds up evaporation from an open cup of solution. One can increase temperature and/or decrease pressure (apply vacuum) on said open cup per usual methods as well, of course, to assist in the evaporation. :saluting_face:

This is the same principal used in lots of equipment such as the rocket evaporator and the speed vac from savant.

Adding the g force allows you to boil the liquid more aggressively without foaming or bumping. On its own g force will not increase evaporation rate.

:The Rocket Evaporator uses a patented new technology
that works as follows:
Samples are loaded into the rotor, spun, and placed under vacuum
(point B). The centrifugal force generated by spinning the centrifuge
rotor creates a pressure gradient within the solvent contained in the
vials. The samples boil from the top down, helping to prevent any
bumping. Dri-Pure technology prevents any bumping
and cross contamination.

Seems like thermo fisher owns this patent.

It’s kinda silly of them to claim “preservation of 100% of terpenes” by evaporating “without heat”. There is always some heat involved and evap is evap is evap… terpenes evaporate, too.

I see… While I believe that’s what you have learned about centrivap theory @De_Neil , I seem to remember reading that a centrivap can also speed up the vaporisation of molecules from the surface of the liquid. Perhaps it has something to do with the anti-skinning effects inherent with your description of the centrivap’s minimized surface bubbling & bumping. This is the same concept of g-force dragging solids (former solutes) down in my description of effects, if you think about it. :wink:
