What was the most interesting thing you heard at MJBizCon?

Or at least a reach around…

It’s Vegas and drug manufacturers partying

What does anyone expect??? party on. Pinky up dabbers acting high and mighty are hilarious.

I also believe you on it being more likely or higher amounts of ketamine at the party lol. Plenty in the scene are addicted.

:dart::dart: fucking dweebs lol

Oh hey, I remember your screen name from over there. I remember reading those threads you linked.

Crazy how much time has passed! Those were the days. I used to be so excited to check ICMag to see if there were any updates.

I first got drawn to that site because of DoubleD’s med patient DWC buckets and later on Capulator then Graywolf. That shit changed my life.

Remember when FatherEarth found the very first THCa crystals and posted a microscope shot?? We had no idea what the hell was going on at the time.

That kernel of innovation that was happening back then on ICMag was a special time/place to be. The open source nature of what GW did is something I’ll never forget.

I see the above video about the patent troll is 40 minutes long, I will listen to it today while I work.

So after reading the gene pool document, I see @Guildextracts have their patents in this portfolio too. That was pretty interesting. I wonder if they are gonna go after all the pentane tech people.

I’m sure other are gonna join in too.

so let me play devils advocate for a second… lets say your a small CLS company just starting out… your willing to give 15% of your profits on your CLS sales to be a part of this group…As this is your only patent in their portfolio your breaking. Now for a very small amount of your profits, you can use that position to sue your larger competitors not part of this group… Not really caring about the actual settlement but just stays in court long enough to put your larger competitor out of business.

seems like an easy business play

I dont think they can go after pentane tech for cbd atleast as it was first crystallized by Adams in like the 60s using pentane

i think it only covers thca but i think its interesting they are part of the portfolio

and mybad… has nothing to do with penetane but seperation of thca and terpenes via centifuge… LOL

whats that new company spintech??

Spintech just uses centrifugal force and a vacuum to purge extracts in like 15 minutes vs days in a vacuum oven theyre not really seperating anything except the remaining solvent

As long as we got the OG CRC thread and the OG OTSSC thread then we’re not doing too bad.

I think no one’s really gonna give a shit unless they’re actually inventing a new product and disrupting the game.

The closed loop extractor can be machined a gazillion ways but in the end it’s all the same shit with a brand logo.

The rotovap can be modded and sold a gazillion ways but unless someone is inventing a new way to extract then theoretically, there’s no way to sue anyone. Like more coils on a rotovap big deal? You didn’t invent the fact you can add those onto a rotovap you just purchased more coils and slapped a logo on it.

The falling film can’t be a patent slave either because no one here invented the falling film it’s already been in use with juice factory’s for years.

We need to make a list of inventions made for cannabis and the companies/inventors that made them, not just a list of objects that are re-purposed for cannabis with a logo slapped on it.

you could argue the patent states they are taking a non concentrated solution and making a concentrated thca solution… so you have solvent filled with thca and your post processing it to a refined thca… might just fall under that patent too.

i could easily see how this can be bad for some companies but could give smaller and newer companies an entry into the market… albeit by a shady ass way but its a way.

Yea but the claims on that patent have nothing to do with solvent it has to do with mechanical seperation of thca and terpenes

Plus what theyre doing isnt new or novel machines like what spintech are making have been around for a while

@Photon_noir i saw you named the machine in a post on IG, what did you call the machine spintech is making?

Nahhhh crystallization and the science of it existed before Cannabis. Whoever crystallized thca first is the inventor.

Are patents stating that someone does something first? Or that what they’re doing is ground breaking because again we’re repurposing everything from hvac equipment to chemistry sets and then slapping a logo on it.

Can’t imagine a ton of large labs separating thca this way given how small most of the centrifuges are.

I have no horse in the race. I just find these business cases extremely interesting

They are a way to enforce ownership and prevent others from profit off or use of the idea/invention
it doesnt matter who invented it just who owns the patent

There’s a constitutional argument to be made that patents should be reserved for inventors and not filers

Patent and Copyright Clause of the Constitution. [The Congress shall have power] “To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries.”

Just because you’re throwing poop soup at it, doesn’t mean you invented the concept of spin the shit out of it…

Idk man that just seems like a way to fuck people over in a way it just doesn’t even seem right to be able to patent certain things and in a way it just seems like the only people that make money in the end are lawyers.
