It’s a bit of a combo of boiling point/vapor pressure and combo affinity for the stationary phase of the GC column itself. You can get varying polarities, phase thickness, and lengths of GC column kinda like on hplc. Is fun trying to wrap 90 meters of column up without making a tumbleweed.
