The CBG isolate that is on the market is made or refined in a lab. Trichomes are an organ of the plant that makes cannabinoids and from I have seen there is no high CBG strains like there are for CBDa or THCa.

Is there CBCa, THCa or CBDa in these strains? Is it still CBGa in the kief?
There is plenty of minors and most importantly the thc-a concentration in the kief is at less than 0.3 thc-a/thc

There are high CBG strains though… It seems to be pretty limited in what people have crossed in and kept the CBG selectivity, but they’re out there. In the US too.
And it isn’t that confusing right? In the words of genetic engineering, you just knockout CBD, THC and CBC synthase, and the plant makes CBGa and stops there. At least that’s how I understand it.

That’s cool. I can’t wait for these to get into dispensaries. I’m worried that the THCa is too low for some jurisdictions. I wonder if these strains are natural or if they genetically engineered the mutants.
What do anti GMO people thing about smoking or eating GMO cannabis?
Ive ran cbg white grown by multiple farms. I have 1 farm that consistently puts out high cbg material. All the other farms material will have a more diverse profile with a blend of cbd. When I mentioned it to the farmer her opinion was that the other farms may not be pulling early enough, that’s it.

We’ve got a few different farms supplying us with CBG kief. Definitely a thing!
CBG kief has the advantage of CBD kief that it’s sometimes full THC compliant.

These guys bred much of the commercial foundation stock and have also published much of their work, so you can see how they selected specific traits and varieties.
But note modern plant breeding (agricultural as well as cannabis) uses all sorts of things that modify the genome but aren’t modern gene insertion GMO. Mutagens which change the DNA in seeds to create new diversity or triploids for example. Natural stresses can do this too.

‘Cause it still sounds like a decent way to get the job done to me…
Although transposon based mutagenesis would be more fun.
