Understanding, Modulating and Optimizing Drying and Curing

Here’s a decent study on what happens to cannabis while curing, from decarboxylation, to off-gassing, to terpene profile changes. There are some issues with the methods, like using gas and VOC permeable plastic curing tubs and a poorly chosen water activity meter. Nevertheless, it’s worth reading and provides data not previously shared regarding the effects of drying and curing.

The study was conducted by Dr. Allison Justice, Ph.D. (in Plant Science) when she was the VP of Cultivation for OutCo, along with Dr. Markus Roggen, Ph.D. (in Organic Chemistry) when he was the VP of Extraction for OutCo.

Here’s is an interview with Dr. Justice by Tad Hussy for his Cannabis Science and Cultivation podcast. His podcast is, by far, the best cannabis cultivation podcast, and I’m also a big fan of The Modern Extractor podcast by Jason Showard.
