Tricks of the trade

Static dissipative PTFE hose is also available. Most available corrugated, also available in smoothbore.

Excellent to have on hand if you’re moving non-conductive hydrocarbons around.

Hmm, perhaps it’s my shop vacuum hose! I legitimately saw it shoot a spark from the hose to my arm

Either way, even if I don’t use it for media, this thing could be pretty damn handy. I know of a few labs that ought to have been using one of these to clean their ethanol spills…

Does it feature a filter of any sort? I’m assuming it does, and maybe even takes bags, if you’re vacuuming media???

More on the topic of gloves, I also noticed that nitrile gloves suddenly got extremely expensive around the pandemic (thanks Obama). $0.30 a glove was a bit too far. I see some went with food service (the cheap sacrificial layer route) I did vinyl gloves at first, then I went the other way.

These are ~$3 at Lowe’s (probably can get better ones from Uline), and we reuse the shit out of them. Once dirty just wash them with either ethanol or limonene hand cleaner to renew them; the phrase wash your hands means wash your gloves in our lab because the 1 pair is your hands for a week at least. We still use disposables for hazardous stuff/delicate work (acetone, xylene, etc.) but 95% of what we use is EtOH, isopropanol, and KOH.

They do degrade over time so we down cycle them. They’re not good for handling finished products or filling carts since they’re a bit looser, but for formulating/mixing, bagging material, extraction, running distillation and cleaning glass/equipment, they’re great.

Once they’re too dirty to touch food products, they run equipment, then cleaning glass/equipment, then dirty/stanky cleaning of distillation flask and handling the vacuum pump.

1 pair can easily save you 100 gloves (usually more if you don’t wear them using tools) and they’re actually quite comfy.

Curious why obama has anything to do with prices of gloves, or why we should ever believe someone who makes such a claim?
Just like that piece of dog shit trump made tons of false claims.
Or do you also believe windmills are bad?
Or, wait, the great awakening is coming, and trump will become president again on Jan/April/aug

Elon Musk will become president not Orange Man

Not a trump person, it’s an old meme. Remember when people would blame obama for everything and they’d say thanks obama?

Seems we live in a post joke society

It was actually a threat! He actually told a VERY threatening and not funny joke.

“WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU AND A HORSE!? NOTHING YOU’RE BOTH GOING TO END UP IN A GLUE BOTTLE”

He is a menace that needs to be dealt with. Help us, Aquaman.

Malice was assumed even though it was evidently meant as humor (juxtapose Obama and pandemic, two things separated in time) and he was incorrect. That’s all. Let’s all chill. Perhaps the snark was unbecoming of me. My bad
