Tricks of the trade

It’s not a trick of the trade…but something to share.

I distilled 6 lbs of n butane from a lp5 n butane tank bought from bvv. This is what I got out of the first distillation…yuck. I’m performing a second distillation now to see what it yields.

For glassware that’s stuck in the joint, I have had great results using a strap wrench to dislodge it.

I have a small speed jack like you would use to jack up a car with a piece of round plywood mounted to it that makes lifting and dropping the platter

very easy.

Works. But the right tool is less expensive if you don’t happen to have one of those lying around

Nice find.

I’ve used one of these

for raising kegs when I wanted access to the bottom as well.

So I’ve been using this and it worked pretty good. I’ve been using the same solution for a couple of months and now this residual powder is getting stuck on the glassware and I can’t for the life of me get it off.

Im wondering if the water has evaporated leaving behind powders that dropped out of the solution. But is this something you’ve seen before? I’ve rinsed with boiling water, water, acetone, iso and etho.

Are you using distilled water or tap water? I fucked up and used tap water to rinse my glass once and had success with CLR to remove the mineral deposits. What is this “Ph up” stuff you’re referencing? Is it the name of the product, or just a NaOH solution?

Using 99% iso with liquid ph up solution from general hydroponics as recommended in this thread. It’s mainly been to get rid of really stubborn red specks and such stuck to the glass that has been real hard to remove.

Then I rinsed it in distilled water, iso and acetone. It’s normally worked fine, but due to less work the solution has been sitting for a while without me adding more iso, so that was a type o in the last post.

Btw, I forgot to ask what CLR means.

And it says potassium carbonate and potassium silicate on the bottle for ph up.

This stuff is great for removing mineral deposits on stuff.

Nice, rinse it off with the usual suspects, water, iso, acetone?

Just water should be good.

I actually use this stuff around the house too haha. It’s great to clean hard water stains from coffee pots, or running it through your coffee maker cleans that up good as well.

It’s a handy item to keep around for all purpose cleaning.

White vinegar does well also

This also removes water spots on paint finishes on vehicles.
