Ortho and monosilicic are both soluble with a neutral pH. AgSil16 makes the pH drift up, and 1g/gallon adds 40 ppm K, 30 ppm Si. They both strengthen stems and aid disease resistance. If K Sil is used in a foliar, it also works as an emulsifier.
If anyone wants to use silicic acid, Loveland SST is superior to any of the watered down hydro store crap. One hydro store silicic acid product is literally watered down SST. SST is 28% and should run about $200 for 2.5 gallons.
Where does recyclesil come in at vs monisilic products and agsil16?
Jacks has a new formulation for hemp. They are more than willing to help design a program specific to your needs. They also have a mix called clone that i highly recommend for rooting and starting seeds.
One of my biggest problems over the years that ive only recently diagnosed was using veg (or flower) nutes for baby plants. I used to give 1/4 to 1/3 strength nutes to feed the new plants.
Now i figure out how many ppm of each nutrient are in the mix.
For instance instead of 10-30-20 I might meausre 200ppm of nitrogen, 500 ppm phosphorus, 300 ppm of potassium. If your fertilizer product doesnt tell you how much of their product in an amount of water makes what PPM then their most likely ripping you on some gimmicky BS.
Silica is very important for new plants. I’ll also use a product like pro-tekt as an emulsifier for foliar feeding oils like neem etc. Calcium and magnesium are important.
It also depends heavily on what growing medium your using.
That being said, IMO compost is the number 1 most important soil amendment. 1/3 compost, 1/3 dirt, 1/3 soilless medium is a base for lots of “super soil” recipes.
I use vermiculite for young plants and perlite for establiahed plants.
Its not just one thing, its everything. When you are uaing containers (indoors) you are trying to recreate nature. Its not an easy task.
Fwiw if you call them nutes youre 99% probably paying too much for your plant food. Farmers call it fertilizer and look at you sideways when you say “nutes”
Ive seen hundreds maybe thousands of grows over the years. The best ones are always a combination of “organic” and “synthetic”
I use jacks, cal nit and mpk only in coco beds! And caps root tea.
They are all different.
Recycle sil is amorphous silica, you would blend it as a soil amendment.
Agsil and any other ksi product is more of supplement. Traditionally ksi supplements are used mostly as a potassium source, ph increaser, stress reducer, and for its pest resistance properties.
Silicic acid products are more appropriately classified as a bio stimulant. They crossover and offer many of the same benefits as potassium silicate with the added benefit of increased yield on most crops.
It’s honestly hard to know what you’re even buying because much like @AgTonik 's product, the states haven’t caught up labeling requirements with current technology and market offerings…everything is just labeled for si or sio2 content.
That’s really interesting!
When I had some I used it as a Drench and Foliar.
Appreciate your input
Great post!
I do disagree with you a bit about Recycle Sil being only a soil amendment. It is flowable just like solution grade gypsum. It can be put through drippers as long as it is mixed and used quickly and flushed afterwards.
I’ll order some and try it. Amorphous is definitely bioavailable, I just haven’t found an amorphous product that performs like you describe.
F it! Since I’m revamping the entire grow, @AgTonik or @BG305 do you want to toss me ideas for a nute change? Powders/liquid doesn’t matter.
If you dont want to be a slave to your grow go with salts and dosers with a trolmaster. The only liquids im buying right now are PowerSi, guano, kelp extract and AGT-50. The powerSI goes in thru a doser on its own and the rest are mixed into a 55gal drum for a tea on a doser also.
I’m always in my garden. At lease 1-2hrs daily just in the clone room. Occasionally I have to water 1 or 2 plants a little less in flower. I wouldnt be able to do that if they are on an auto cycle.
I’ve thought about that quite often. It takes me 45 mins start to finish in the flower room (getting the 4x 5gal buckets ready, watered, and out the door. 10 mins to refill the water holding can.
Do you guys remember heavy harvest from advanced nutrients?
I used that in my outdoor for years before they discontinued it and I was so bummed when they did. It made outdoor feed so damn easy.
I started using jacks after they stopped making it and I do love jacks but does anyone have any info on that heavy harvest or what would have similar npk?
Im glad to hear so many are using jacks these days! I havent used it in a few years but ill be checking it out if they got a new line for hemp and clones!
Guaranteed Analysis: Total Nitrogen – 25.00% (2% Ammoniacal, 23% Urea Nitrogen) Available Phosphate – 9.00% Soluble Potash – 7.00% Magnesium – 2.00% Sulfur – 3.00% Iron – 0.40% Derived From: Ammonium Phosphate, Ammonium Nitrate, Urea, Potassium Nitrate, Postassium Sulphate, Iron Chelate EDTA, Calcium Carbonate, and Magnesium Carbonate.
Thanks bro I probably should have worded that better. Didn’t mean for you to have to find the basic npk on there I meant does anyone know of a similar npk values to the heavy harvest. It was slow release as well so it was like once a month feeding.
I loved the stuff I was just curious if anyone else used that back in the day!
You liking the trol master, seems to be the beat option. Gonna do an overhaul after this run and was looking at the trol master.
Interesting note: anyone try buffering with HSil and KSil? Other than tying up K allowance so supplying sufficient phosphate might be an issue, I don’t know of any specific silicate antagonism
@Demontrich try HGV nutrients, AGT-50 and silica. The science going into that lineup sounds solid!
EDIT: When I mix salts, I do a 10:1 NO3:NH4 ratio to balance the pH. HGV as a premix is the next best thing. I am going to personally do a run with AGT-50 and some flavor of silica when I run out of this Jack’s Hydro.
Update on this cycle with Athena Pro.
Day 1
Day 14
I gotta throw a 3rd layer of trellis on and then they’ll be getting a heavy defol in another week.
Leaves look solid. Light tips mean you maxed out the EC.
