Seems like a bit overkill. Why not just extract fully butane and cryo temps? terp retention + less processing + cleaner end product.
First attempt. Looks a bit cloudy due to the frost on jar from freezer.
Grounded material
-10c etho and biomass straight out freezer
1min soak/stir
Vacuum Buchner:

2x filter paper 2.5u
1um disk filter

20g B80

20g AC
coffee filter

Decent. Gonna try next batch with dry ice (-30,-40) and an additional 20g AC and see if I can get a bit more clarity doing only a single pass filtering.
Nice! If you can keep your extraction temps under -20c you wont pull any lipids!
Is that so ?
Interesting since I have been so focused on 1 singel process I did not realize that in the mean time several other processes their parameters got tweaked
Ethanol extract was a lot colder to keep fats waxes and chlorophyll out
Also. Always use a cold trap lol. This was my vacuum pump oil only after 2 runs of Buchner filtering w/o having the cold trap in line
Or use a more appropriate vacuum pump…
As @cyclopath said… You may want to look into a diaphragm style pump as opposed to the oil rotary vanes. They rotary vane pumps are definitely not intended to be used for jobs like a Buchner funnel.
Should a cold trap still be used with a diaphragm pump?
Appreciate the advice getting a diaphragm pump as we speak
Yes.
Although it also depends on where you’re sending the exhaust…
I’ve used one of these critters on a small Rotovap in the past…sans cold trap
Exhaust will be sent out of a window.
You technically don’t have to have a trap running diaphragm pumps but I find Using a dry ice/iso cold trap with my welch 2052b i see between double and triple the pump life before a rebuild is necessary. Just food for thought.
Max Vacuum @ -950mbar
These little rockers are built like tanks and super easy to get replacement parts for.
Word. Appreciate you G
Totally off topic but our veg crew is funny af. I always find quotes written on out blocks or random shit like this
“Life’s a garden, dig it.”
Once again, I truly appreciate each and every one of you on this entire forum for your knowledge and willingness to share important information.
Have a wonderful day
Any recommendations for a diaphragm vacuum pump to run with a 2L setup? Something less than 500bucks? Ran across some used Edward’s,Welch’s and Gasts online but not sure which would run a deep enough vacuum for optimal distillation. I’d only be using it a couple times a month so I don’t wanna go overboard with a super expensive pump. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
