Texas thc ban on governors desk

Texas, land of the free - free to get fucked and do what the Bible thumpers say.

Unfortunately forced to moved to Texas years ago, from legal states in the north east. Everyone told me, don’t worry, it’ll be legal in Texas in no time, it’s already available in all states surrounding Texas. A few years later and we’re facing an outright thc ban. They’re closing the loopholes and destroying a 8 billion dollar industry.

Texas is anti drugs, they don’t want people “getting high”, but we have literal drive through daiquiri stands serving giant cups of liquor. They even offering two for Tuesday where you get twice as much liquor, because who doesn’t need a giant cup of liquor on a Tuesday? They also sell cases of beer and tobacco at the same drive throughs.

Texas currently has one of the most limited and restrictive medical programs in the nation.

Don’t even get me started on the insane regressive tax system in Texas. My tax bill has been higher than ever since moving to Texas from the north east and we get less for it. Texas infrastructure sucks, power costs are high, roads are garbage, virtually no public transportation, schools rank as some of the worst in the nation, food prices are just as high as the north east and even cost more because of our insane sales tax.

If you have ever thought about moving to Texas, don’t, it sucks.

I’m not hopeful when they could have just passed a law to… You know… DO JUST THAT. It’s pretty clear this is a prohibitionist play fueled by alcohol lobby.

I humbly disagree. I live in TX and I love it here. I’ve lived in CA and other states, but nothing is like that line star state. I guess you could just move back up north east? We have no state tax (most other states do). Our sales tax is nearly 2% below that of CA and NY. Homestead act makes your property taxes low low. And it’s still the only true land of opportunity left in the country. You can really stretch out and flourish if you’re a good business minded individual. But Texas is getting heavily populated, and we don’t want more and more moving in.

State sales tax in CA is 7.25%, NY is 4% & TX is 6.25%. CA local sales tax rates can be higher & would average to about 8.8% while NY would be around 8.5% & TX at 8.2%.

Texas is in the top ten states for highest property tax rates.

Thank god for them

The homestead act reduces property tax up to $100,000 off your value of house. And, if you’re a veteran, you have 0 % property tax.

Might I add, I think the 0% property tax for veterans is if they are disabled. But I’m sure it’s one of the two.

Dude piss off, they already ID at stores.

You idiots are so transparent, MUH MEDICAL MUH MEDICAL is nothing more than a means to tightly control who is allowed to make money.

ITS A PLANT YOU MORON, I CAN GROW IT IN MY FUCKING BATHROOM.

Go screw yourself for championing this BS.

And also, fuck you for being a LIAR. Republicans are NOT in support of medical industry, I cannot BELIEVE you are actually trying to peddle that BLATANT LIE with a straight face.

Youre only saying that becuase your probably some white guy name Cooper who came from an extemely priviliged background that gave access to opportunity. This state is a hellfire shit dump for all the normal people who dont live on a 10 acre ranch property.

there’s also an exemption for seniors, but the appraisals suck and always seem excessive. The California approach where property taxes are based on purchase price would be better

Homestead exemptions are available in the majority of states & property tax reductions/exemptions for disabled veterans are as well.

It’s always good to be white haha. That’s racist language eh? Don’t matter what background you come from, Texas is a good state to live in and raise a family. They are talking about expanding the compassionate law so there’s no telling. We’ll see if Abbott kills an $8Bn industry in Texas. Ron desantis Vetoed a similar bill due to that reason.

Right. I just don’t jive with anyone who says “Thank God for prohibition” unless we are talking about prohibition of violence.

the state fiscal note suggests it’s maybe 10% of that, I don’t get how Whitney economics arrived at that number unless they’re taking into account wages and lease payments etc

Probable Net Positive/(Negative) Impact to General Revenue Related Funds
2026 ($12,690,000)
2027 ($14,310,000)
2028 ($14,960,000)

@8.25% sales tax, that would be 150M - 200M projected sales/year based on tax receipts

LEts just hope he doesnt sign it. You’d think 40k+ jobs jobs meant something. Same thing w TN, its on the governors desk, it kills a lot of jobs in TN too..

I think Dan Patrick “crashing out” like this may actually cause Abbott to veto lol. Even some of the most ardent anti-hemp people I know are now like “ok screw this just free the plant, I’m not on the side of the dude who’s holding up bags of 5mg D9 edibles saying they’ll literally kill people”

Yeah, what was the LD50 of THC again?

The median lethal dose (LD50) of THC has been determined in various animal species through oral administration and ranges from 800 to 9000 mg/kg. In humans, there have been no recorded instances of fatal overdoses resulting from acute THC use. However, estimates for a potentially lethal human dose range from 4 to 15 g.[24]

Seems like the sugar might get you first…

This exactly. It’s cringe worthy if you are on this dudes side. Look at our world right now, there’s no excuse to make this your primary issue as a high ranking politician unless you have corrupt motives.
