Tasty Tinctures

Wondering what everyone’s preferred method of flavoring tinctures is?

I have a full spectrum tincture in my product line and although it sells quite well as is the taste can be unpleasant for me at times, and I am looking into flavoring it and the others that will soon be added to my line.

I don’t get many complaints about the flavor but I am assuming the better a product tastes the more inclined a consumer would be to take it multiple times daily.

I know peppermint is a popular one, I am considering using some sort of sweetener along with peppermint.

Ideally my flavor would be something universally palatable (no mocha vanilla or cotton candy) I don’t want to go down the road of having 5 different flavors for one type of tincture

I have a friend in my city who uses strictly terpene blends for his isolate tinctures and swears by them claiming it gives his different isolate tinctures different effects.

I see other companies using stevia, and other sweeteners/ bitter blockers that I am assuming is added in powder form to the MCT while infusing with the cannabinoids?

Ideally the flavoring would be as natural as possible and easy to homogenize.

Any ideas/comments/spoons would be greatly appreciated!

So I had someone approach me and ask to make them an orange vanilla flavored tincture. Was going to try and use sweet orange oil and vanilla extract hopefully won’t run into any problems. I’ll let you know how it turns out, just waiting on the sweet orange oil. As of now I just do tfree distillate into mct oil.

I have had a lemon tincture that was really good. The only thing I am concerned about using flavoring and or liquid bitter blockers/sweetness is the other ingredients like water or alcohol that some of them have and how difficult it would be to properly homogenize with just a stir bar and a hot plate…

ideally I would keep it to as few ingredients as possible most of my products are fairly straightforward oil based tinctures and I like the idea of only having two or three ingredients

I have the same concerns with similar equipment. Have you looked into oil soluble flavorings? I know you said you don’t want vanilla or anything weird but I got vanilla extract that uses a sunflower oil carrier and is oil soluble from Natures flavors that’s USDA organic and I’m sure they have other flavors.

oil soluble would be key, as I am looking to avoid having to use preservatives and emulsifiers as that is out of my current skillset although I’m sure it would just be a matter of learning the ratios

If I were you and had that client who wanted vanilla orange I’d just pick this up, one of the vanilla ones up, combine the two, dilute with mct a bit and add some CBD to it.

This may be my oil soluble peppermint, thank you for the recommendation

When you say full spectrum you’re referring to RSO? I have made a few oil based tinctures and I believe I put my recipe on this forum some where before. There are MCT based flavorings out there, I really like the lemon lime. When I used the lem lime I think my final mix had 20% by weight. You’re probably on the right track with peppermint. This seems the best for oil based tinctures bc it gives a refreshing after taste and makes you kinda forget your entire mouth is covered in oils.

As far as flavors i liked for covering bitterness goes:

Grapefruit, lavender, and ylang ylang

Peppermint and crude make a nice mint chocolate

Also agreed that vanilla extract will be a problem to homogenize with the mct b.c. it’s alcohol based

linalool is disgusting. Who would want a tincture flavored like that?

I use food grade essential oils. The brand I currently use is LorAnn oils. Many different flavors to choose from. Depending on how strong you want the flavor will depend on how much to use. I use about 8 to 12 drops per tincture.

Lavendar can be awesome in small amounts. W limoncello and vanilla it could be pretty darn good, I’d think

If it tastes like getting your mouth washed out w soap, it’s too much though . Pot-pourri .

That’s what I used in the past. Easy to find. A little goes a long way, and mixes well. I believe its alcohol based, not water.

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check that out for sure. I’ll get back to you on how it all works out as far as flavoring.

These guys make the best flavors for tinctures

They also have sweeteners that remove the coconut taste

I just mix oil with the 99 proof schnapps brand. 99 bananas is their most popular, but they make a lot of flavors. It is super simple, easy, and customers love it.

I have tried various conventional aromas, like a dozen of fruits, and also few kinds of meat, all in MCT. The only one that is not mixing well is vanilla, both synthetic or natural. The natutal even leaves an insoluble brown precipitate. But it can still be emulsified. Some like mango, passion, mint, lemon do not really overtake natural flavour of cbd strains. But others work well.

Have you tested the insoluble precipitate? My inclination is to believe they are sugars and can easily be filtered once they have precipitated. I have previously had issues with sugars precipitating from my crude. If the vanilla flavor is something you like, it may be worth playing around a bit.

I did order a sampler pack from them as well.

My plan is to take about 30 15ml sample bottles of my current full spectrum product and have three different concentrations of each flavor, and do a taste test with a few people, the final winning sample flavors will go to my biggest retail store clients for testing with their customers.

Lavender isint bad, I have smoked it when I didint have any flower to put my dabs on in a pinch.

Select makes a lavender tincture that sold alright at the shop (not that I would ever choose to carry their products)

Lemon ginger is a good combo too. I am referring more to the marketing term
Full spectrum than the actual definition. I am required to say it on the bottle even if there is only a few % minor cannabinoids. I tried not putting it on there for awhile and it really didn’t sit well with the stores.

What my product is that needs flavoring is a “full spectrum” CBD “tincture”.

I also am attempting to do a high CBN tincture. it is about 50/50 of distilled water to grain alcohol and tastes like swamp ass due to the sleep aid beneficial herbs extracted into the alcohol. Experimenting with monk fruit extract in it.

Also attempting a 1:1 CBD/CBDA product the CBDA was water extracted and the taste is very acidic and rough. Grabs your throat.

Plenty of time for R&D in the quarantine
