I’m with @Roguelab on this…filtration by centrifugation
Good afternoon Mr. I want to buy a filter where I can improve my performance and quality. What do you think about these filters?
Thanks for your support.
How long was shipping and are you happy with what you got from Lanphan?
That was a year ago. Good chance its broken by now lol
triclamp filters ftw. I have a 5 micron sintered disk on mine, and i didn’t pay out the nose
only complaint i have with bvvs off the shelf is the weld on the legs is piss poor. I ended up breaking off all four and making a new stand out of an old cooking pot.
Been having an issue sourcing large porcelain buchners (200mm +) without defects causing faulty filter paper seating. (United Brand specifically causing me problems)
Does anyone know of any economic alternatives? (Is Hochstrom the best choice even at relatively small scales (a handful of liters) or is there a good brand that makes faultless large traditional buchners?)
The hotstar has a money back guarantee. Is the fastest and most accurate filtration tabletop system on the market.
People have claimed thier Labs were swept throigh with fires and the hochstrom was still standing and still opperational. There’s pics of one that went through a forest fire a while back someone posted.
speaking as someone who has two hochstrom and a few ceramic buchner, the hochstrom isnt even close. to the shelf it went.
until some sites began large scale particulate filtration. the hochstrom suddenly became a power move. it has applications. not for cryo wax filtration though.
How large of ceramic Buchner are you using?
5L, which has ~27cm diameter
I’ve been using the summit hochstrom filters for a while now no issues they’re great. Can’t speak for the others.
which filter paper do you use? I find that the Whatman #4 is too slow for me. Any suggestions for faster cryofiltration?
what exactly are you filtering?
in this scenario i was filtering freshly centrifuged 10:1 ethanol:co2 oil at -86c
what is your setup?
mine was a ~5L buchner, 10L catch, and a decent diaphragm pump (ill see if i can find specs)
how much are you filtering at a time?
for me, about 5L at a time
other important info on my end: we are spinning our oil in a large almost cryo centrifuge, then immediately decanting through a coffee filter followed by a whatman #5
which all translates to filtration of about 5L/minute
on your end - you have a lot of options in the tool kit for speeding up your filtration. we can help you more specifically when you provide us more info on the stuff above. off the top though (and assuming a similar setup to what i mentioned earlier in the thread) id definitely recommend a coffee filter on top of your filter paper to act as a prefilter. a coffee filter will catch 90% of your wax while allowing superior flow.
if you need a more robust pre filter, some diamataceous earth (food grade) will treat you well.
