Sub Critical CO2 Terps - Vitalis R200

Ran my first subcritical co2 terp pull on a Vitalis R200 this morning with the @BrushyBeeCBD team

Stringle and a few other former Vitalis (covid crunch) employees started a consulting group, and they guided us through the process

The jar on the far left (and which I’m holding up) is the pour off of the top of their first terp attempt from several weeks ago that was allowed to sit on a shelf undesturbed, although at room temp and not well sealed.

The other 3, are from right to left, 5 min, 10 min, and 15 min pulls @ ~700psi and ~45 F on the cyclone

The hemp going in had decent nose, but was ugly.

The 3 pulls need to be filtered/dewaxed, and then they are off to a client who isolates the individual terps.

Congrats! Thanks for sharing.

Kinda surprising what the terp pulls look like. I was expecting something more clear. Very interesting to see. What is the ballpark ratio of terps to contaminates? Curious to see the results after filtering and dewaxing.

What is the final (after being cleaned up) yield like?

The fats lipids and waxes will vary depending on settings.

We have pulled terps where 60% was fats lipids waxes and cannabinoids.

And others that had very little.

After we clean them up we end up crystal clear.

We have found that 30-50% terp yield after clean up is what we are averaging.

What’s your method for getting that end color / clarity? I’m confident we can get to the clarity, but not that color with our current methods.

@Betroit they clean up real nice

Thats an enormous material sock

The color comes mostly from the cannabinoids. The trick is to remove the terps from the cannabinoids by fractioning off the individual terps and leaving the cannabinoids in the boiling flask. We are still working out our process and have only done it at small scale. We still need to get some lab work done to see if we have terp loss with our method. After we know it is a solid method and that we are not loosing terpenoids I will gladly share more details.

Ahh distilling them? Cold with some vac I assume? I bet a nitrogen sparge would help get them moving with less heat

Yes cold with as much vac as you can swing. Just need enough to bump those terps off and to cool them ASAP so they drop in the collection flask before they make it to the cold trap. A nitrogen sparge is a great idea will have to try that out.

Subcritical co2 terps with a little water still

You put the subcritical extract into a water still?

No, sorry lol as in they still had water/hydrosols in them at the time of the pic, we dry them after this point

Ahh I get it now. How’d you get em so clear?

Yeah CO2 terps can look nice and clear even coming from straight trim.

I’m using an apeks and going for least amount of post processing… but you might want to dial those parameters in a bit more.

Mmm some CO2 terporn

Straight out the machine terp pull

Hey @Future Former Vitalis Member here, close friends w Stringy and the boys at AGMS. Separatory funnel for 24 h, and then 25mm syringe filter will clean those up great.

One can get great co2 terps with almost no cleanup straight from the machine with just a dialing in of parameters.

25 mm or 25 um?

Membranes can clean this up NP

That or cold path will get you the water clear terpenes you want
