Good point. Someone could pheno hunt, spend thousands on testing, find a few unicorns, then use tissue culture to create an entire crop of unicorns. It wouldn’t be cheap, but, it is possible.
I just don’t know anyone doing it.
One other point: Even if fake seed slangers properly record a 1 in 5000 unicorn, their seed will not represent the unicorn. One seed in 5000 might. The rest will represent the norm, meaning a 2 week 2 inch test will test hot.
Unless you’re growing the 4-6% smokable @james2pro wants to buy, (until his smoke closet’s full). Then he’ll discover nobody else will buy it, and the cost to grow far exceeds market price. The good news, bankruptcy filing is only $100 – and that can be waived
BUY FAKE 24% CBD .3 THC SEED DIRECT - CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MAN!
As a service to F4200, I’m offering a direct to farmer deal. 5lbs, for $33.25. No need to buy your fake 24% seeds at markup, - you can buy them here, including 47% CBG, 36% CBN, and 27% CBXv (Our Exclusive, Totally Fake Cannabinoid).
I pulled those two candida phenos above from a ten pack of seeds. I realize that was pretty lucky of me. I’m planning on just cloning the shit out of it and planting a cpl acres. But yes no seed will be able to produce fully legal smokeable flower from 100% or even 70% of the plants from said seed.
I have spent thousands on licensing and testing tho. And really only made a portion of my investment back from growing hemp last year. So pretty much you’re right.
This is precisely why I’m a fanboy of OregonCBD: They took the risk, put in the time, built out the infrastructure and their products are reliable and stable as a result.
The clowns pretending they “found a strain in a 10 pack” or got their plant to produce zero thc by growing hydro ( ) will absolutely not produce a reliable, stable seed. When you understand the extreme cost and time involved to do this correctly, and compare to the ridiculous effort and investment of @Autumn_Ridge_Hemp etc, etc. you better understand how to buy reliable genetics vs getting ripped off.
“In 3 years, we have spent over $7m on analytical testing alone to get to where we are at today, which is being able to find the right chemotype 1.3% of the time. Plants can’t be accurately tested until they are sexually mature, so these projects take up an awful lot of space and resources–and we end up cutting down 98.7% of the initial plants, usually when they are 3-4 feet tall. Of the plants with a proper chemotype, roughly 1 in 20 are making the cut as potential mothers for seed production (2021 release, pending field trials of progeny this summer). In other words, we have valuable greenhouse space devoted to testing plants, of which only ONE in 1700 will make the cut (to say nothing of the 3 years and thousands of plants it took to even make it this far)–it takes 12k sq. ft. of space and 2 months to find that one plant. When we are done with this project, farmers will be able to plant a seed and have a guarantee that trimmed flowers will be roughly equal parts CBD / CBDV and federally compliant in time for harsh, universal USDA rules in 2021. I do not know of any other company devoting resources or energy to the breeding process like we do. Miracle plants tend to fall from the sky at other companies 6 months after we release lines–weird, isn’t it?”
If you’re fond of pheno hunting, Oregon Cherry has a pheno that puts out 24% CBD consistently with ND D9 and .5-3% THC-A. Not ideal with THC-A, but a great starting point for future breeding.
Also, our clones are a direct representation of the plant for which they were tested… all of our flower samples are dried cured samples from week 4 and week 7, respectively
All 3 varieties are below 0.3% total, but yields are notably lower on everything but Z1… Z1 was our highest yielding, best all around variety, with black/blue tones, and massive terpene production.
I find it interesting that Botanacor (or any lab without moisture content) is ok for pre-harvest compliance testing, but not for buyer vetting. I haven’t found evidence to support what @anon1342 says about moisture content doubling Total-THC… keeping an open mind regardless, and learning a lot in this discussion.
This is our JxH at home in the greenhouse, and yes, we’re completely broke and loving every minute of the crushing debt (and continuous challenges against our integrity), but I love this and would not trade it for anything in the world. I am so grateful for what I am learning in 4200 and look forward to offering value wherever possible. No plans to produce seeds of this or any of our varieties at this time, clones only.
Also, on the subject of bankruptcy, if we go bankrupt, I will never stop growing, and I will never stop learning. Plenty of successful entrepreneurs have gone bankrupt trying to serve the greater good, and here are some of my favorites… much love!
@cbdtomorrow - strong effort; unlike many you seem to be taking the right steps to find that pheno, however if your analytics don’t account for moisture content, or generally are bunk… You’re driving blind.
I note your spreadsheet shows best case, 3 tests at around .3tthc with 6-8% CBD. Nice work selecting, but at the end of the day? 6-8% CBD? Is that the variety you’re banking on to sell or did I miss something? I have not disputed 6-8% .3tthc plants are out there, just that imo they’re not economically viable to grow.
Regardless, nice work, I appreciate your effort!
re moisture content, its just math. if you have plant matter that is wet and weighs 1kg testing at .3%tthc, when dry the 10% moisture plant material will be more like .8-9tthc.
1000g = .3%tthc wet = 3mg thc
same material dry @10% moisture theoretically has the same 3mg but now weights for example 350g vs 1000. hence thc by dry weight is now about .85% tthc
Even the Orange Photonics unit has a built in calibration equation for moisture content of biomass, why would major labs not do the same?
Edit: Every COA I have has the % moisture of the biomass listed.
Edit 2: Nevermind, Botanacor seems to be a giant glaring exception to % moisture as previously mentioned.
