Just the pump or pump + small freezer dryer?
Air dried rosin is trash. I usually don’t care for the type of people who defend it
the full kit, pump and freezer. It’s off of their website, I’m guessing it’s EOL

You have to live in a lucky climate or microclimate to do it. You need dry air and low temps that maintain a low temp for multiple days without temp spikes during the day. Air dry is much more doable in NorCal say like a high elevation in Trinity, I think this would be really difficult to pull off at low elevations on the coast where it’s warmer and with more moisture, maybe high elevation in northern arizona, and some other states but still you’d want to be in winter to keep temps below 55-62°. Ideally like 40-50 degrees for multiple days while having a dry climate.
With those lucky parameters and then combined with using some very necessary tek like a tray that would absorb moisture like the absorbing mats people use or DIY cardboard tray and breaking up your material more and more each day for 3-4 days without any temp spikes that will suddenly melt your air dry into flat clumps of bubble hash. By the end of the dry you should be able to break up all your hash into borderline sand or dry clay like consistency with some nitrile gloves while at the same time if you made it into a ball and compressed it with your hands it would mold into a nice temple ball. With those lucky continued cold temps outside and a very dry climate you could do it and have a nice end product with little terp loss to where it feels and taste similar to coming out of a freeze dryer, takes a few days 3-5 days depending how much material is spread out on your sheets. Some argue better, I don’t know if that’s the case but very comparable if someone doesn’t have access to a freeze dryer yet?
I think it would be hard to do in texas even with a dehumidifier. But it can be done in the right location.
It’s a very simple post process to make happen as long as you know what you’re doing while controlling those parameters you can air dry in a “cold room” temp and preferably between 35°-55° at highest and within humidity you’re wanting to remove moisture as it’s being produced by the product being wet and in the relative atmosphere. Learning how to plane the hash properly will determine how fast & efficiently you can dry the hash evenly. Wicking is very important and key to prep even prior to starting your freezing process prior to drying.
This part has been most important when doing it along with good temps. Even with good temps and humidity it’s hard to do it within a reasonable amount of time without making sure it’s all broken up and planed out on sheets along with as much moisture wicked out before starting the actual dry
I did see this post before. Do you have and issue with oil mist from these pumps? I saw your post on the thread talking about using pumps indoors and really made my question things. I’ve used oil pumps indoors and noticed oil mist. Makes me concerned using these in a living space. I wish I had a dedicated work space like you all.
People claim to get years out of their oil free pumps. Since I’m not using them full time, could I expect a much longer lifespan from the oil free pumps before needing to replace or rebuild them?
I was looking into microplane and drying in a freezer/refrigerator. Freeze, microplane on parchment paper in a pizza box, into refrigerator, back into the freezer, microplane any chunks, rinse and repeat. I have a garage refrigerator/freezer that is basically empty. Thinking about trying this before investing in a freeze dryer.
If I can make pretty decent hash without needing a freeze dryer I might consider it. I process at home, so if I can avoid another vacuum pump making noise or possibly oil mist, power consumption and heat production, then I might have consider it. I’m not a processing lab so ultimate efficiency isn’t the only determining factor. If I can get 95% of the way to freeze dryer quality, then it might be worth it.
I haven’t made bubble hash for a decade, so I’m just trying to prepare. My plan is to get a freeze dryer, just trying to consider my options.
Nah the mist won’t be a problem at all - I’ve used the cheapo HR pump and it’s worked just fine. Your only issue really is going to be remembering to change the vac oil every 4-5 runs but otherwise you won’t run into any issues. The oil free is nice, but not explicitly needed
The only issue I’ve ever had with an oil pump is when I would use techs who don’t understand a ball valve & would leave the valve wide open during the process
I can’t count how many talks I had with just one company alone due to that sort of incompetence of people. Other than that as @SubstituteCreature said you’ll be changing oil more often with an oil pump.
Now for the air drying yes fridge is possible and especially without the need for a freeze dryer. For one to say all air drying is trash is like saying they’ve never had good hash. Some of the absolutely best hash /rosin can come from air dried as it can have more terpenes present due to not being forced under vacuum or volatiles leaving as much within the lyophilization process. Color is going to be attached to the resin itself and how well it’s been dried prior to post processing but you will get a great idea of the color as you’re drying.
The more displacement, the more oil mist. If you are running the vacuum pump against a closed door on a small space, you get less mist. At the start of the process, or if you run the pump open to the whole world, you will get that gray smoky mist.
For rosin its shit. You’re looking to keep the terps trapped so it’ll do some natural dissolution to the material therein but if you air dry it that shit is going the way of the dodo. For old school its different as you’re not trying to fight off oxidization and if its wet sieved you get sort of a nice gumminess that happens which traps most of the terps. However the oxidization would ensure most heady hatpin rosin consumers would complain
I’ve walked in the next day and had to spend the entire day cleaning due to it a couple times. Had a technician that would go check on them and then see the valve closed and would open it thinking he had closed it. He had insisted that he was correct. I can tell you the headaches I was having due to his incompetence were just abundant.
Below are some examples of air dry hash rosin. Looks wet & terpy to me and would leave mouth covered in terps more than most found on market. All I’m saying is there’s art to all our tek and some refine better than others at it. That’s why we all have our niches and are constantly learning more and more.
Now I’m not knocking FD I’m just saying each route has its own unique characteristics and can be done just as well as one another with proper parameters being met.
Curious if anyone here runs a Sasquatch Press? I got a Yeti and just started having issues with the pump. Started looking around for their Support Line but found their site is down and last public post was 6ish months ago. Anyone have any contacts or know what happened with em? Praying they didnt go the same way as PurePressure.

Great consistency for no FD, how long does the air dry take?
Just depends on how thin you lay out after you plane but typically around 5-9 days time you can manage to dry a good sized batch
