That’s the og bubble bag guy isn’t it? I had a set of his bags like over a decade ago. I checked out their bubble bag website but didn’t see any full mesh. They have their Lab line that’s 3/4
I heard mixed reviews about them and some cheaper bags. One of the things I liked about the Icextract bags is they stagger size length well so it helps with drainage
Was checking out the boldt bags too, they look nice, more expensive than icextract for the full set, but boldt offers nice 4 bags kits too
What micron progression are you guys using when washing for rosin these days? I see some guys selling full melt 6 star are still using a full bag system to help separate tiers, but I’ve seen rosin guys only running like 3 bags 160, 90, 40/45. Hell I’ve even seen people selling 159-46u rosin
Trying to decide if I should pickup a full 7/8 bag kit or just grab 3 or 4 of certain microns. Since this is mostly personal does it make sense to separate all the different micron sizes, or just use a few bags and press them all together?
Opinion on 25u bags? I’ve read mixed opinions, some claim it’s food grade or trash because it’s mostly stalks, some claim it can be full melt especially if running sativa.
I’m planning to wash in a 20 gallon brute or stainless steel vessel (if I can find a decent priced one) lined with a 220 work bag. Then run it through 5 gallon bags to filter.
I do not use a 25u because it drastically slows down work flow, water takes forever to drain through the bag, especially if you have some hash further obstructing flow. The 25u bag is typically a super low yielder for me and tends to yield nothing more than food grade hash. The juice is not worth the squeeze imo.
Hope these descriptions give a little insight on bag sets and what’s in them.
190um will contain larger broken stalks and particulate which would essentially be utilized as a first line of filtration beyond your work bag which typically 200-400um depending on what set you have.
160um will be a set that can contain larger glandular heads and capitative stalks as well as larger particulate and dust so this is a specific bag to rinse through lot more than others if you deem it worth of collection for pressing or melts. I’ve seen bigger tiles on some outdoor in the higher micron sizes on occasion so it’s really grower and strain dependent.
120um will be something to add into a mix for a “longer lasting high” as it tends to lend into that broad spectrum ration thus giving the full entourage effect. It can contain a nice profile and not end up being harsh from larger broken stalks and particulate as that will be held in your 160-190um range.
90um is basically cream of crop, first pull first wash specifically. But imo it’s all marketing for hash. and on your process to determine the quality not the micron. I’ve made full spec that look far better than most folks first pull. I’ve made all sorts of melts due to a proper control of parameters in many different micron sizes or blends.
73um is pretty good, it’s melty, but not as stable and can be more or less yield each wash than your 90um which is “prime” heads for squishy. 90um will show more stability due to less amount of volatiles and more stable glandular heads comparative to the 73um which will be more volatile and have more of a grease down right away during cure.
45um will tend to be mostly food grade, can be good persy shit but the smoke and high doesn’t last long. Can be terpy as volatiles tend to settle on the 45-89um range. But can also be much darker in comparison to your 73-90um
25um is typically trash, you can pull some clean resting there but it’s mostly full of small immature heads, dust particulate, and broken down stalks. Typically will end up with hot tests in your 25um as well.
I have all sorts of step by step guides and sops on the solventless side of extraction that go pretty in depth to explain the what’s why’s and whatnots of just about anything and everything you could think of.
I appreciate the break down man. Ill get a full set, better to have them. I made bubble over a decade ago, but since I didn’t have access to enough fresh flower I didn’t keep up with it.
Thanks for the line on Happy Dreams Genetics, dude has too many good options I ordered like 16 strains to stock up on variety
Do you have a preference in freeze dryer pumps? Looking at harvest rights and it looks like some people prefer the oil ‘premium pump’. There is a “only used a few times” medium size HR locally with an oil free pump for $1800 and I’m thinking about grabbing it. It’s a 2023 medium with 4 trays, before they switched to the pro medium with 5 trays.
I was leaning towards the oil free pump until I saw people complaining about it online.
I can get a brand new small pro from HR with the ‘premium pump’ for $1600+tax because they’re running a sale atm
You can get the “premium pump” with oil separately from a HR bundle for a very good price as low as $400 something brand new @Sidco_Cat posted a thread where she has an in with a company that is selling the effectively a carbon copy of the premium pump with I believe even slightly better mtor parameters. And the HR branded premium pump can be found new for cheaper than HRs list price. Also yes with the HR bundles you will find really good prices on the premier pump.
You won’t need to change the oil until after 20+ batches and HR will send you a free bottle of replacement oil with your HR bundle. One could buy multiple replacement premium oil pumps and still not have spent as much as you did on the oil free pump. The premier pump with oil works great.
No need to upgrade especially if only using a small HR pro unit, I would say the same for a medium unit. If doing small batch indoor to rosin, you won’t be running enough batches to pay that extra amount just so you don’t need to change oil which takes 10 minutes and that is only required after 20+ batches along with more questionable feedback on the oilfree pump. Stick with the premium pump with oil
I don’t think I would buy an oil free pump bundle new, I don’t think they’re worth the premium, from what I’ve read.
I just found a deal locally for a medium size unit (4 shelf 2023) with an oil free pump, for the same price I usually see medium units with the ‘premium pump’. There is another medium ‘5 shelf 2024 stainless steel version’ with a ‘premium pump’ for the same price as the oil free setup. But both are more expensive($1800 cash) than buying a new small direct from HR which is on sale for $1600+tax atm. This is for personal small batches of bubble hash. I believe the 4 shelf medium is just before they released the ‘pro’ models, and I believe the 5 shelf medium is the new ‘pro’ series
I do plan on running this in a living space, so I was thinking for the same relative price, would the oil free make more sense? Down the road when it dies I can rebuild the oil free pump or replace it with a ‘premium’ pump.
I saw someone on Reddit got that deal. I don’t have a membership, they won’t even show me their price for their medium setups online. Maybe I can call the local store and ask, would be worth a years membership just for that deal
edit:
On another note, how do people feel about some claims that traditional air dried hash is better than freeze dried hash? Both in the context of using it for rosin or traditional temple balls?
