Passive vs Active Systems

I have been using an active system (cmep) for over three years now. I am seeing talk about how much better passive systems can be (not just in cleanliness but also in recovery speeds) but it seems to me you have to have the proper chilling and tank system. Is there a temperature threshold at which a passive system becomes more efficient than the active set-up?

I’ve had great results with my cmep ol. Ran one for 2 years straight before deciding to get a rebuild. Then recently got another and run dual cmeps and my recovery times are great. Not like some of these crazy passive guys but good for active. Probably average 2-2.5lbs/min

I know that you are a fan of the hydrocarbon falling film evaporator and I’m guessing that’s what you are hinting at by saying I’m on the right track. I agree that for the fastest throughput, a tube-in-shell evaporator would reign supreme. Active Vs passive recovery speed

How much faster is recovery using an active setup Vs the same setup in passive? Also when running passive, at the end of the run the CLS will be under pressure, where as the active cls will be under vacuum? Correct?
