Nanoemmulsions - and Surfactants

I actually have a closed loop sonicator with active chilling. I totally get not giving away the horse with the cart!

I use different combinations than that. I refuse to use tween. Guess i’m just an elitist

Nice! We will have a flow through cell soon on a larger system.

Q-naturale is pretty awesome too, just been struggling to get the turbidity down.

There are sooo many options and combos for this stuff though!

are any tasteless?

Nope, but tasteblockers are a thing!

I saw your last message, Kolliphor is on my list to try!

Edit: This one is good. http://mycotechcorp.com/cleartaste-bitter-blocker.html

any one ever achieve a clear emulsion with Q-Naturale?

I’ve been using the organic variation - 300

here’s my formula:

water - 14.55%
QN300 - 34.95%
oil - 50.5% - this is half distillate and half MCT

with 90% pure oil getting 227mg/ML

It doesn’t make a clear finished product but works for the products I am making.

How long is that stable for and how are you homogenizing?

600 watt sonicator.
4on/4off for about 5 minutes
on ice bath

I’ve made the emulsion and then used it over the course of 4-6 weeks and it’s stayed stable. I have an emulsion made with isolate that has been in my fridge since probably June or July with little to no visual separation. Different formula there but in essence the same ratio’s.

Once the emulsion is in the drink it does experience some separation but I’m working on solutions. Shake it for 10-15 seconds and it’s good as new. Still quite a few kinks to work out though as far as shelf life goes.

Do you filter your solutions? My issue with Q-naturale is that I can’t get it to filter over a 0.45 µm filter…

Are any of you guys using bitter blocker?

404 error.

Not sure if this is where you were trying to link to but this does have an extensive list of cannabinoid patents, including emulsion systems.

actually no, I hadn’t considered it until you asked, but am now curious about its benefits and if my emulsion could be filtered effectively. Thank you for bringing that up.

If you’re using direct sonication, filtration is mandatory! The sonotrode sheds titanium as you use it, so the particles must be filtered out.

Any one used or heard of Ugoo?

will do! appreciate the help, I’ll let you know how it goes.

I’m using a similar formula to yourself.

Do you use any preservatives or anti oxidants?
How do you make sure that no bugs are growing?

I use a different formulation now, but sterile filtration through a 0.22 µm filter will remove mold spores and bacteria. Also, we process our current formulation >55ºC for about an hour, so the solution is pasteurized.

Yes. I have spoken to Axiomm Nanotechnology in person and on the phone. They came out with their new formulation about two weeks ago. I think they changed the name just to Goo.

They don’t offer samples. MOQ is 1kg.

I can share some of the trial specs and other info if there is interest. GRAS, clean label, natural, benzoic acid and I think sorbic too, stable to very low pH, and they share the full ingredients when you buy the product. I was very impressed. They put a ton of work into this and long term shelf stability testing, along with all kinds of other testing.

How does it taste in a beverage at a reasonable dose though? i.e. a 25 mg dose in a 12 oz. beverage.

Making a stable and translucent nanoemulsion is easy; however, making it palatable in a useful dose is another thing entirely.

Thanks for the info. It seems like one of the options with the longer shelf life.
