Here’s a picture of some “living diamonds”
Was it from living soil that’s probably the only justifiable reason I can see to display that propaganda for advertising.
Im trying to understand why labs calculate thca the way they do now
If you have a 100% pure THCA crystal, and it undergoes decarboxylation, the acid groups will leave as CO2 gas, and you will be left with 100% pure THC? So, why does the packaging for this “pure crystal” say 87.7 % ( i know it’s loosing 12.3% of the weight) but isn’t the end product supposedly left as 100% thc
You’ve answered your own question. 1 gram of 100% pure THCa is 87.7% THC by weight.
As gas is liberated from the molecule the overall gram weight changes to 877mg (the other part of the gram floats away). Out of the original 1000 mg only 877 mg remain, which is the percent you mentioned when divided and multipled by 100%
So if i decarb 99% thca diamond the liquid will be around 87% thc right?
How are people achieving 93% thc from liquid diamonds? Thanks
No.
The THCa loses Co2 due to decarbing, which has a molecular weight to it.
1000mg of acidic diamonds will literally lose 12.3% by Weight due to the chemical structure actually losing mass.
If you decarb 100% THCa into just THC you will have 100% THC but less of it by Weight. (In a perfect world with no other degradation of course)
You’re not dropping potency, you’re dropping mass.
I mean yea its essentially just distillate with terps. Its just a marketing play because diamonds are hot right now
I would argue decarbing isolate and adding terps is primarily a production shortcut…
the marketing opportunity is just a bonus.
…but that also requires a distinction between decarbed isolate and decarbed “diamonds”…because there is absolutely no reason to grow facets if you’re just melting THCA down for carts.
I agree, I mean you could potentially call it Diamonds if it came from Diamonds but no one would go through the cost to do that.
To me, its just a marketing play
off topic but, decarbed diamonds + cannabis terps in syringes is leagues better than RSO. in raw form diamonds are fully legal. medicine to the people.
are you suggesting that people should eat cannabis terps?
lots of people already do…
rosin edibles
butter edibles
RSO (not much terps left, but definitely some)
Hell people are even making live resin edibles now (not sure why… seems kinda dumb to me… but people are making them and customers are buying them. I assume for the terps, bc why the hell else would you want live resin infused edibles?)
I like terps in my coffee
We manufacture live Rosin and live resin beverages. The effect is definitely better because of the added terps but something no one has brought up - the taste! You can make some delicious pairings.
For example we are about to do strawberry octane live rosin into some strawberry lemonade.
I hear ya. Dialed in makes some really good rosin gummies, flavor wise. They use flavors that pair well with the rosin used, so that makes sense.
So when y’all decarb live material for edibles, I assume do y’all do it under pressure? I’ve always wondered if the terps would still taste good after decarb?
Dont understand this. Put terpenes on your tongue. They taste terrible unless in vapor form. I tried the hype and went out and grabbed the 710 rosin gummies and the eating experience was unbearable. It felt like chewing pectin and plant bitters.
No discernible change in high either. Its one thing if the extract has trace amount of terps but adding terps to food stuff is stupid and dangerous.
Pathophysiology
Terpenes are local irritants and thus are capable of causing GI signs and symptoms. CNS manifestations may range from an altered mental status to seizures to coma. Aspiration is a particular concern and can result in long-term complications or fatality.
Absorption begins in the oral cavity and is rapid, as evidenced by the early onset of toxicity in significant ingestions. Terpenes are metabolized through cytochrome P450 and are excreted as conjugated metabolites by the kidney.
I can’t argue the medical side of it. My ignorance is bliss, I guess lol.
But I don’t think people are adding terps to the food, they just come from the extract that was used.
Sucks your edible tasted shitty. I’ve had quite a few that taste great. That’s also subjective though.
Always best to decarb under pressure. Still tastes great, but I do think terps always taste best when zero heat has graced it. They change a bit.
