We are currently vetting out all of the distillation units available and noticed that lab society has a new thin film distillation unit they stock. There haven’t been any results I could yield when doing an online search for HVE or anything of that nature.
For the price point it seems like a decent piece of machinery but I wanted to inquire if anyone else has ordered one and has any first hand experience they would want to comment on.
I have an old 3" model from HVE. It does convert from wiped film evaporator for high-speed stripping volatiles, to wiped film distillation. The bottom funnel (for stripping) and internal condenser for distillation are setup with quick-change clamps. It’s a modular setup too, so it’s relatively easy to customize, i.e. add a diffusion pump, feed pump, etc.
I bought one. So it’ll be here Friday and I’ll provide updates as I can! Won’t be processing until September but I’ll be able to let you know what I think from the first impression.
I highly recommend getting some kind of feed pump for it, especially if this is your first time running a larger wiper. It’ll make your runs more efficient.
Yes the unit itself is great. My only complaints is that lab society really paired it with an inadequate pump. So I have upgraded with a peristaltic pump and upgraded the vacuum pump significantly and added a second cold trap. Now this baby is rocking!
When a company buys effison films for 8-13k each and then resells them as usa made for 100+k. Interesting. Effison contacted me a while back asked if I wanted to buy those units. Wasn’t sure it was the best move.
Are you talking about the building where they assemble the racks? Bc I’ve seen catalogs with thier stainless, tubing, and components that all go on their systems. I also have been on the telle with people who work with them that make claims that the major parts are imported from china. Now these are all conversations I’ve had with people but effision showed what looked like verbatim style components and offered to supply them to me too. I know they will assemble systems in usa but the parts tho…
