Between January of last year and May of this year, the state’s toxicology lab saw 58 death cases in which one or more Mitragynine-related substances were detected in a biological sample.
“We’ve seen a shift in the market of Kratom use within the state of Oklahoma,” Chief Forensic Toxicologist Jesse Kemp said. “Traditionally over the years it was just normal plant products. We’ve seen a shift into concentrated tinctures and tablets of various Mitragynine alkaloids, and these are concerning because they have a strong opioid-like activity similar to morphine or fentanyl.”
The toxicology lab started seeing an increase in these substances showing up in cases last fall into this year.
“Traditionally when we saw Kratom-related fatalities they typically had other drugs on board as well that contributed to that,” Kemp said
“As we move forward with some of these more concentrated alkaloids we’re seeing them in isolation so it may be the only drug that we detect in a death that looks like a drug overdose.”

Notice they don’t say deaths that ARE drug over doses. Notice how these people are not making any definitive statements that open them up to libel/slander
