Your life will be markedly easier if you’re going to do a dwc setup if you get a chiller.
You MAY not have issues now, but your going to hate things in the summer.

My suggestions don’t follow what’s easy on the pocket book, just what’s best for your garden.
The budget is zero right now. I’m researching things, looking into what things will cost and looking for reasonably inexpensive non-soil methods, and looking to use as much of the stuff that I already have.
aside from a light, tent, some piping/buckets, and nutes, I could setup a RDWC right now, and light aside, I get a heat sink and I can build my own lights.
I’m too busy trying to hit a set goal in bitcoin investment right now.
Well, you need to come up with how much you can spend on it imo.
At this point we can all say get the Cadillac, but if you can’t afford that, we could give you the right advice on a more budget friendly option.
Hell I recently shut down my personal flower room for the last 3 months because I couldn’t handle the existing humidity. Instead of limping my way through crops I shut it down and am installing a $4000 dehumidifier because it’s what’s best for my garden…
I’ve eaten top ramen and eggs for months before so I could afford nutrients… it’s about your personal drive I guess.
$500, how’s that for a number?
And as far as hydro vs soil, I keep seeing people want to run before they walk. Dunno why, it not easy to learn with hydro.
And there’s a balance I would say @FicklePickle, since I don’t make any money off of this, I do mentally weigh how much I’m willing to spend on it.
I think @blunt is on the Mac and cheese diet for the moment until his grow is online too.
It’s a decent start, you can get a tent, a fan, and a light for that much.
Or a light, a fan, and materials to build a enclosure.
I have limitations I have to work around man, and not much I can really do about any of them. Space, location/placement, electrical is the big one.
Like I said I can free up enough of what I’d need when I get rid of this mini fridge that isn’t doing anything, and I might be able to move my AC to a different circuit.
This place sucks, and there’s no chance of moving out any time soon.
I don’t have a lot of money, me and my gf are both on fixed income, just due to some circumstances I happen to have a bit of money at the moment. money that I’m trying to invest to potentially have the chance to get the eff out of this place, and possibly city.
So besides messes, is there any other reason you want to avoid soil?
For your situation, I’d strongly suggest soil. Sorry to go on about it, but it’s really a good starting point for all of this.
That is literally most of what I need. buckets are cheap. I’d need nutes. I have an airpump capable of making some good bubbles.
I have:
an RO+DI(needs filters)
Eco633 pump
smaller eco396 pump, but I may not be able to use this. I think it had glycol run through it at one point when I was doing distillations.
Aquatec CDP8800 120PSI pump
Pressure switches, solenoid valve
biocontrols spray nozzles kit, a few of both sizes.
various other spray and/or drip nozzles
couple small ultrasonic foggers
one big motherfucker of an ultrasonic fogger.
a few bunch of 3W COB LEDs of various spectrums covering pretty much the entire range, may not be enough for an entire tent though.
My dad always instilled the idea that “if you’re going to do a project, do it right”.
You’ll be far more successful in dirt starting off
mainly mess…but I want to try hydro.
I wasn’t too keen on dealing with the soil when I was working on a farm, I don’t really want to have to deal with it in my living room.
How may watts worth? You’ll only wanna run em at 50% or they are crap for efficiency. Keep that in mind when you’re adding it all up.
If you got 500 to spend bro please try soil until you harvest its damn near fool proof get some ocean forest or something get your money up then experiment with hydro. That shit is unforgiving as hell at least with soil you have a bit of a buffer!
I totally get wanting to try something, but if you’re dead set on it, I’d suggest maybe having a soil grow going too so at least if the hydro goes to shit while you’re learning, you’ll still have something to smoke with the soil grow
I would likely have a mother growing in soil in my living room.
Yeah those aren’t all that’l great really.
Your can grab an enfun 240w board with uv, ir, and white diodes for under 200.
That’s justified enough light to run a 2x4 space
Edit: I say that from experience, I’ve built a ton of diy led fixtures.
