Is the problem vaping or nicotine?

Been thinking about this for some time. Is the problem vaping/smoking in general or is it nicotine?

The big argument against juul is “its like smoking 20 cigarettes in a day”

Well what if there was no nicotine? Some people do smoke nicotine free vape juice. I’m curious as to how you all think the conversation would change if nicotine was no longer a factor? Possibly change it to Vg/pg are bad for you, but definitely not worse than whatever’s in a cig.

I don’t see vaping go away, ever. But what does the future look like

Cigarettes have a shit ton of nicotine in them…that’s why Juul works to quit smoking

Your trading one nicotine source for another. Nicotine is nicotine, no matter the deliver system.

I am a former smoker, quit 20 yrs ago.

I was not aware people smoked nicotine free vapes, kind of the odouls of tobacco products? Health boards and physicians seem pretty convinced of the lipid pneumonia issue, though I don’t feel the results are quite in on that front.

Vaping is a harm reduction product, it would be foolish for one to use the nicotine versions assuming the lack of tar makes it “safe”, non nicotine well I would like to see data on it for sure

Oh it matters- 400+ carcinogenic chemicals vs 4 GRAS?

Gras is ingesting only, not vaping. Per fadedawg at riu.

I’m pretty sure it’s for inhalation actually…hospitals have been using pg for air sanitation for decades

I’ve seen folks cite this before, wouldn’t the concentration in environmental control systems be different than that of inhaled concentrated vapor?

True, true, but more or less what I’m trying to point out is that there are many differences between traditional combustion of American cigarette tobacco and vape juice- we know cigs cause cancer, but studies by the RCP show little toxicity. The irony in all of this is the constant redirection away from the fact that cigarettes just cause motherfuckers to be dead daily and seems of little importance…and it didn’t when I was smoking for 20 years…since quitting and using ecigs, I don’t experience any lung problems whatsoever let alone any sort of pneumonia…used to get bronchitis yearly, no one gave a shit why then, but the very thing that may have saved my life is being demonized despite there being literally 0 proof that any constituents in my vape juice cause real harm to myself or anyone else…sounds kind of like using cannabinoids to treat many ailments while it received a similar status in the medical community that prescribed me load after load of opiates that eventually nearly killed me…I have my reference points…sure Juul is charging ridiculous pricing and taking advantage as much as the next douchy-larousse, but so is my state mmj program and I gripe all the way home from the dispo but at least it’s not heroin lol

Now they are using hypochlorus acid.

Thanks for pointing that out- I don’t know why I’m always looking to pick up these type of facts…you never know when they’ll come in handy

it’s essentially water. Same thing your white blood cells produce to fight infections - i think, id have to ask. I know enough that its something you white blood cells make. The hospital application is a spray and in five minutes it covers every surface area in the room. Sterilizing it.

I use it as mouth wash, lol.

From what I can tell people are getting sick from smoking black market oil carts.
These carts get cut with stuff you should not heat. And being black market many of them are concentrating antifungals and pesticides.
In illegal areas nobody will admit to smoking pot so they blame vape.
Since 1 juul has 1 pack of cigs you can get sick.
Juul is 50mg/ml nicotine. I smoke a 3mg, 6 makes me nautious so 50mg is flu like symptoms.
Now stupid legislators dont know shit so their attacking the nicotine vape market as well as cannabis.
Most nicotine vape is made in China. So American tobacco lobby is losing market share and they also want to tie in regular vape so everyone goes back to old fashioned American grown tobacco.
Makei it illegal will then expand the black market again and cause more danger.
That’s my take on it…

The problem is e-cigs, not vaping.

Tobacco companies have been lobbying, gagging, and bribing politics for decades. Considering that tobacco companies own a good portion of the ecig market I would expect to see non-flavored vapes to make a comeback.

Who’s ready to become a cannabis lobbyist and being those suitcases of cash to the politicians to let us operate. Preferably cannabis would enjoy the same legal status as alcohol and tobacco, then again Joe Biden has stated he would make cannabis scheduale 2 if he was president, turn the whole industry over to pharma.

Where’s that information coming from? They aren’t contenders in the least- no big tobacco products in vape shops whatsoever

$12.8 billion sure sounds like a large investment in vaping to me

i’m with you for the most part except for G.R.A.S…
it doesn’t apply to inhalation at all
only oral ingestion

It’s a small world.

Kevin Burns, CEO of Juul Labs — maker of the best selling e-cigarette on the US market — has stepped down. He will be replaced by K.C. Crosthwaite, a former executive at Altria, one of the world’s largest tobacco producers.
