My batch of bubble hash infused material is clumping up and making it extremely hard to work with. Is it because the bubble hash is too fresh and has too much moisture? Any recommendations on how to fix?

We do a paddle wash in a stainless steel vessel and freeze dry our bubble hash. The process on this material is we grind it and pick out stems then we sift the dried bubble hash over top of it and mix it up. This material was made yesterday and sat overnight.

Ive done another batch this same way and it turned out just fine and didn’t do this. only difference is different bubble hash. The bubble hash that was used for this was fresh. The other batch had been stored in the freezer for a couple months.

I can tell you now the grinding is causing sub-micron particulate that’s getting into your hash which in turn could cause above average water retention even after a freeze drying cycle. Honestly you could wash it without picking out any stems at all as the stems themselves won’t hinder your hashmaking - maybe rip work bags (if you use them, I usually don’t) but they don’t really do anything that will make your hash worse in the end. Although I do appreciate someone putting in effort to give a nice prep to their material before doing anything to it.
You have to think conceptually in scenarios like this, essentially you are trying to trap the sugar on the nug so if you’re grinding up the plant material to sizes near what the sugar on the nug itself will be, you’ll likely have a lot of that showing up in the bags. Unfortunately it can be underwhelming sometimes trying to refine your material like that when you finally get to pulling bags but it makes for a better overall product and a much easier time drying your material even with a freeze dryer involved

Oh im not washing this material. We wash frozen b-buds that come off our we trimmed plants. This is infused pre roll material that im having trouble with. I sift our finished bubble hash over our finished ground up pre roll material and a batch of it is doing this. I should’ve put that in my post and the title sorry.

You could always try using a “viscosity adjuster”, basically flavorless terps. For example, True Terps makes a product called Flow that’s just alpha bisabolol and triethyl citrate. I’ve worked with infused ground flower and found that spraying terps really help break up those clumps, but I wouldn’t do more than 3% by weight though.
