I was just debating whether I should chime in …
Using CBD causes a huge exotherm as soon as a little H2S is formed. H2S is acidic and acts as a catalyst promoting more cyclization.
Reaction temperature skyrockets and you end up with a ton of polymerized sulfur. No chance you can work that up.
Sulfur on d8, d9, or d6a(10a) probably works just fine.

I never saw his cbn sop but I purchased his CBD to d9 sop back in August 2019 for 3k in Bitcoin.
It was a decent starting point but amount of zinc bromide was low as well as a short reaction time. Adding zinc chloride and increasing reaction time made it actually work well.
