Help with distillate equipment

I’m looking into equipment for making distillate. I know the rotovap is the essential equipment. I’m looking at a 5L distilation package. I’m looking to spend 1000-2000. Can anyone point me in the right direction on essentials that I would need. I already have the ability to make the crude oil. Thanks in advance!

Depending on your initial extraction method you’ll also want the proper equipment to winterize. I would suggest giving www.usalab.com a call. You’re going to be stretching it to get all of this done for $1000-2000 (not saying it can’t be done). DM me if you’d like talk about it further I can try and point you in the right direction.

You should message @David and ask.
I think he will be able to provide you with what you need.

The vacuum pump alone is 2k or more for a quality one that is needed.

You can take a gamble on a uses alcatel 2021i, or even a leybold trivac d2.5e.

You will not be able to make any quality oil for that price. I don’t care who says other wise. Buy quality! Not Chinese

Why, I still run china equipment and have zero issues. I bang out +90% light gold disty every run.

Edited

We have 6x 2021i vac pumps, and 8 2l china spd setups. Never had any issues with china equipment. As long as it’s taken care of.

Dont skimp on the pump, the rest can be pieced from almost anywhere

I run a Chinese 5l with a $250 robin air 2 stage pump and put out distillate in the 90’s. Runs slow but who cares . Still does a full run in 8 hours.

How deep of a vac are you getting?

Mine maxed out at -28 on my 1.9cu’ vac oven

300 microns is best I’ve got in a main fraction but it’s only a 6 cfm pump. I bet the 12 would get me down to 50 or so.
The pump it self pulled down to 40 microns.

If the blanked off is 50, and your running 300, you have a slight vac leak. My best on the leybold was 80 during heads.

24-35 in the 2021i during runs at work.

Yeah it’s in the damn cold trap. The drain valve at the bottom leaks slightly no matter what I do.

Use silicone wrap tape.

That makes me feel better because I picked up a 2 stage 5cfm rotary vane, and I was hoping that it might work on my 2L SPD.

I tried that. It’s just junk but what do I expect for a $100 cold trap lol.

Should work just fine.

Which part is leaking, gl fitting or ct to RF joint?

Did ya try and use a sleeve, or a little extra grease?

So would the pump that I have for my across international vac oven not be sufficient? It pulls -28 on the oven

I don’t know what it’s called but it has the PTFE 24/40 style drain. The glass is just shit. I’ve watched it pull vac grease through a small channel and start to leak. I’ve been meaning to change the cold trap style but just haven’t yet.

What’s your altitude? If your at see level I would say no.
