I love this stuff too for cleaning out SPD. Alkali/bases are so great for scum!

H2O supersaturated with KOH will eat through organic material. Just have some vinegar handy to neutralize Incase of a spill and WEAR PPE FFS!

I have a question hopefully someone has an answer! I noticed some red stuff in my cow and it started to work its way into my ball. This is when I was 80% done pulling THC. Does anyone know what it is or why?

A dirty mind is a joy forever

Thats the start of tails
The red comes heavy in tails what we used to think was CBN
It s not CBN we don t really know what it is
We swap flask once it shows and collect the last bit of cannabinoids storing them till we have enough to do a tails run

I recently got in some wide bore glass from David and am distilling at about 160c vapor temp now (30c lower than with USA lab glass). I actually watched everything oxidize and turn red in the head the entire run, all the way through mains. I assumed it was because of a more pure 1st pass? 2nd pass cleaned it all right up with zero reddining.
Iā€™m very curious as to whatā€™s happening, since I didnt see this happen at all at higher vapor temps.

Did you have any trouble with build up of gunk in a WFE?

Magnesium Silicate as an adsorbent will remove a satisfactory amount of lipids when used properly. Then you can distill without winterization.

No, I didnā€™t have problems running unwinterized. Gunk wiped film has a different cause, plant sugars. And winterization doesnā€™t remove those.

If you donā€™t mind, were you able to produce a clear oil or did the distillate contain some cloudiness once it cools? Also wondering if you witnessed the boiling point depression that future and others mentioned earlier in the thread.

It was cloudy, in fact almost a pure white color. But that was expected and intentional. I think it distilled a little slower ay same temperature, but not much. Helderpad used to recommend running 1st pass unwinterized and then winterizing between 1st and 2nd pass.

Oh that is interesting. I wonder what the logic is in that. Iā€™ve yet to run any of the KD systems but ended up adjusting Pope and VTA SOPs a little bit. I am running some non-winterized crude soon on a Pope so should be interesting.

I ran some shatter and pulled this
