H2O2 shown as probable cause of rapid crashing "Medusa Stone"

Should be tons, idk about apple though but i cannot imagine it isn’t available

Video was shot on a Samsung Note 9. Nothing too fancy.

It would seem the colligative properties suggest a lower boiling point alkene…agree…it has to be?
But an exothermic amine reaction might fit the bill…
Is the low temp boiling always associated with getting cooler?

Pipe dope? I know some food grade dry lubricants that might look similar (honestly I think they are mag stearate)

I don’t think so. We had a LOT of it.

I can pretty much rule out pipe dope as I haven’t used any on the system.

Will it burn? I swear that those vials when fully crashed look similar to the crashing out of dissolved salts from the well water that is used to cut the alcohol (moonshine) that goes into bottles. My landlord/work neighbor runs a distillery, and they have big issues with Calcium deposits from well water causing clarity issues with their clear/high proof spirits. Since salts aren’t very soluble in alcohol, I wonder if you could collect a bit and see whether it would burn. If the white mystery solid burns = hydrocarbon, if not = salts?

It melts and can be vaporized on a regular banger

Or just set my solvent on fire and look for residue…

Did you huff it?!?

Not the precipitate, but some of the Medusa stones I harvested a while back.

Sounds like a higher boiling point hydrocarbon. It would be interesting to know what temp it vaporizes at. From there we could figure out whether it would boil in the default temp program of the SRI GC, or if we would have to modify it.

Boiling point of thc at atm is ~420C.

It flys fine in the GC at 180C

…it’s not about “boiling” temp.

Melting/boiling temps would certainly be helpful though.

Soooo…,heated this up and tried injecting it in my GC a couple or three times.

Got more signal than injecting at rm temp (no surprise).

Peak area suggests I got 35% to fly this time rather than the 3% I saw at rm temp.

Doesn’t look like a single substance.

Need to find something it’s actually soluble in…

Is it not water soluble?

Not ideal for injecting in the GC.

…and I have to admit I don’t know

At the moment the only samples I have are in ethanol. Spinning them down and drying them is on the list.

Trying to dissolve in water is also…now

:man_facepalming:

Edit: NOT soluble in water…

Look at the way the nucleation and crystalization happens in the memorizing upward motion… Sitting here just thinking, I can’t think of any crystals I’ve seen form like that at such low saturation… But it’s “instantaneous” in terms of crystalization.

Because of it “bulk” , mass precipitated…
Are you suggesting this material is of plant origin.

Acetonitrile
