Good Life Gang sounds like a 90s rap group.

M also comes directly after L in the English alphabet
(That tip is for you @Soxhlet, I know you don’t read good and I am here to assist)

It has a reputation as being a membership group consisting of professional cannabis business people that do good business with eachother.

Noted. Hasn’t stopped the Gang from exploding and offering significantly more value than it cost to join. We won’t be changing anything.

I strongly encourage anyone else to make a certification organization with a better name to compete with the GLGc, since its currently an empty marketplace.

So would the value of this certificate be for an employer or customer?

Do I pay for this cert to get into the industry, or does a company pay for it as a selling point.

I’m a little confused on who this is for.

I get it in practice, but like has been mentioned before, the cost needs to have its benefits for the individual paying.

It benefits both the labor force and the industry and I think the concept of school has been presented in so many varying forms over the course of this thread that the fact that you now cannot grasp it is making me feel like I taking off my shirt and inviting yo to a toga party cause clearly some people don’t understand the value of university and degrees and need to be tricked into it by offering you parties and secret exclusive clubs

@Future just did it backwards, he took the networking and social side of a fraternity and the school part came later

Yeah, uh ok.

I’m not the only one who is asking this, and if future wants to make this successful, those questions need to be clearly answered.

No need to go on a rant about the value of an education…

It’s a fine name for what you are currently using it for, I meant the name doesn’t really instill confidence or anything official sounding as far as certifying above what states and the fed already require.

Then again, like @Curious_Roberto, I am still confused on the target for this.

The problem is that they charge too much for em, not that they’re not valuable, just massively oversold.

Doesn’t mean the concept of higher education is completely without merit

For the record i fully support the idea of glgc. And i would gladly donate some of my resources to the cause.

I for one would like to see a cooperative model where the members have a say in what happens if thats possible

I called it.
Communist.

About tree fiddy I’d say.

My 2 cents:

While the handbook is a great starting point for someone who knows literally nothing about processing, it’s so general that I have trouble understanding what the $50 test is supposed to prove other than reading comprehension. I understand that there are more to come, but IMO rolling it out at this point seems very premature, and risks damaging trust in the certification.

I see this same thing in other industries (IT and tech cough cough) where there’s so many companies and certifications and levels and titles that the educational intent becomes lost in the Pokemon-style badge/title/certification collection scheme based on reading comprehension.

That being said, I understand that great things take time to develop and I’m interested to see where this goes. I see it being more valuable as solidifying the position of the smaller “underground” cannabis community against the inevitable encroachment of Corporate Cannabis once things go full legal. Lots of other industries have their own private industry organizations (API, ASME, etc…) that set standards and pull from many disciplines to unify things in a unique way to their specific industry. We’ve already seen what happens when scare tactics get used to convince politicians that we need overregulation to stomp out the small guys. I can see in theory how this certification would give the “small guys” ammo to push back when they get accused of doing things incorrectly or unsafely.

All that being said, at the end of the day the certification is going to be worth exactly what the members make of it. If the industry leaders and players take it seriously and establish it as some sort of positive indicator, that’s what it will be. If the majority use it as a marketing tool to charge more for shitty product, it will become a joke.

This is exactly how other industry associations work. They have committees made up directly of industry representatives that are chosen and voted on by their peers.

Would be nice to see plans to implement this type of structure in the future.
