I am trying to make some live resin with 70/30 propane/butane blend to then decarboxylate it and make carts/vapes with it.
I would really appreciate any advice and recommendations for equipment (under 5k) such as closed loop systems.
I found a tutorial by LowTemp on how to make live resin (I dont know if I can posts links). What do you guys think?

Buy distillate
Buy good terps
Buy a cart farmer
Pick out your carts
Maybe a microwave and or magnetic stirrer.
No need to play with the hydrocarbons.

There is difference between live resin and live rosin.
That would be the first place I’d research

Unfortunately I cant buy distillate or terps (legally). Im pretty sure hydrocarbons is my only choice (or CO2). Am I mistaken?

And Lowtemp is a rosin press company. I am not sure why you think you need to correct him when you’re admittedly new and he was helping because you’re referencing a rosin process in a video made from a rosin press company.

Im not planning on going head first in unknown terrority, Im aware of the dangers of hydrocarbons. I want to learn and experiment months before I even think about trying extracting with butane/propane.
I just wanted to know if the tutorial I linked is a good starting base for learning.

Before you get help from experienced industry professionals on a very dangerous activity, I would like for you to answer a couple questions(at least to yourself).
Why?
Is it to make money? Well there are much better and easier ways. Go to trade schools. Take classes in HVAC, Electrical, plumbing, whatever! It will pay 10x whatever you hope to make blasting.
If you have a passion for the plant, or a glutton for punishment like many of us… Go to trade school and learn HVAC! You’ll learn how to work with these dangerous gases. If extraction doesn’t pan out… you’ll have a backup plan that pays 10x more!
A couple of months is not enough to learn how to extract, operate equipment, or do anything of value in a lab environment aside from wash dishes. Normally I’d suggest an entry level job at an MSO, but you’ll only learn bad habits.
If you really want to get into cannabis, get a degree in chem or biochem or engineering. Nearly any STEM degree.
If you want to trap for quick cash, buy terps, buy distillate. Mix. Small profit.
Just buy your extracts like everyone else.
You should understand that this is a profession and not a “game.” Amateurs with hydrocarbons are a receipt for disaster. There is a long-running thread about lab explosions caused by people like you! I do not mean to be a jackass but think about your own well being. Not to make an imperfect example: you don’t walk into a nuclear power plant and say “I’m new to the game, which buttons do I press!”

I’d advise you to buy some distillate and terps and start there.

You can make carts out of rosin, which others have noted Lowtemp, the brand you mentioned is focused in ice water extraction.
I believe the difference would be you want/need to use quality material for rosin and also not all strains wash/yield the best. Compared to hydrocarbon where more remediation issues lesser/quality material can be dealt with. But on the topic of live resin/live rosin they should both be made from quality plants freshly extracted, so if you wanna make either you better know how to grow or know some good growers.
As a consumer I prefer quality live rosin carts (if Im getting a cart), although my new pet peeve is when a brand has no live rosin in jars but only 0.5g disposables of the strain(s) I want. It’s crazy.

I think the problem there is that nobody followed your link, because everyone here knows that Low Temp makes rosin gear, so they assumed you pointed to a “live rosin” tutorial rather than a “live resin” tutorial. You didn’t.
It’s not a horrible description, certainly wouldn’t consider it enabling if you’ve never touched a CLS.
Most folks would consider it out of scope for LowTemp plates.
now read about rosin vs BHO.
And consider going that route…
Or do as others have suggested.

- start by washing dishes.

I found this CO2 extactor after reading through a forum (thcfarmer). The ones using it seem to recommend it and one guy posted his lab result of his final product.
From the tutorial video it seems easy to use and straightforward. And doesnt seem as dangerous as BHO extraction
What do you think of this one?
