Snoop came from another era of music, he was of course helped a lot by Dre’s productions and the whole dpgc crew (Kurupt, Daz, Nate Dog, Warren G…). Doggystyle is almost always cited in the all times 10 most influencal rap albums (along Wu’s first, public enemy, Dre, De La soul, a Tribe Called Quest, Rakim…). Gucci Mane does not stand any comparison, or perhaps only with the more recent snoop’s pop, abstracting his past career…
Both artists are dope as fuck and id love to see this versus play out in reality.
Snoop is much more commercial. Gucci has a lot of street anthems. It would be sick.
I guess i’ll admit, it’s more of a matter of personal opinion as far as the rapping part of my rant goes. I personally think his flow and melody is very “shallow” and gimmicky. similar to e40… the flow sounded cool, for a very short amount of time, and there was really not much skill involved the entire time. It’s like you can almost predict the next word they are gonna rhyme. but i guess that was the style back then.
I just like old gucci because how raw he was and just the sheer amount of mixtapes he was releasing straight to the clubs / streets. And his melodie’s and freestyles are better in this era IMO. But it’s really apples to oranges
Snoop perfected slick ricks flow and storytelling and made it a career. All the old Gucci wakka flocka shit is that shit and obviously Gucci was carrying wakka cause look and the number of hits since they stopped working together
