Distillation Consult - Need help!

Are you getting buildup on the wipers in the Pope and/or on the body walls? Are you using pure or denatured ethanol?

He is using denatured !

What brand of carbon are you using ?

Carbon chemistry and the wipers are fine.

Hmm then why the low ph ?
Etho sit s at around ph 6-6.5
Carbon chemistry is around 5.8ph
So what causes you to go to 4.0

Please check ph of all your products used one by one
Etho AC silica
Denattured with what is your etho ?

Definatly LLE is the best solution to kill the reds or a magsil column
A heptane/water5% merhanol is also a good formula
If your interested inthiss @Beaker has written a lot about it and @tweedledew
Has tried almost all that is possible

Hmm, I was thinking there was a chance you had some water soluble compounds in there but that’s unlikely with no build-up. It might still be worth trying a few heptane/water washes on the crude just to see what happens.

What should the pH of my solution be in order to not have any reds?

Your ph should be around 6/7 if you want to avoid isomerization during distillation
As far as i know i do not blame the low ph for causing the red
But i sure would like the reason of low ph answerd for it is not normal
And can have serious concequenses
As @cannabuilder sugested i would like to have you do an extract in it simpelest form and monitor the ph of ethanol befor and after the extraction
So. Cryo extract , filter treu 5 mic while cryo remuve solvent decarb and distill i
I would be surprised if it would be a worse crude than what you have now

Should we use the paper strips from home depot to check pH?

Those are fine
Take a reading of your ethanol
A shot glass size is enough
Ad a 1:1 ratio of whatever else you want to check to ethanol and
See what changes your erho should be around 6.5ph
And adding anything wil/might alter that
This will give a reading of what is added

what Militorr vacuum level are you during your pope run? would assume you are doing two passes or just one?
