Iām 90% sure it was hydrogenation. It exploded and caught all the solvent on fire.
So what I have been told is that David and two others were able to make it out of the facility after the explosion.
They realized they left two behind. David was screaming for everyone to get back and was doing head counts and his only concern was everyone else that was involved.
The firefighters told his parents that David ran back into the building to find them. He caught fire and suffered 99% third degree burns. Basically his whole body.
David is a hero in my eyes and in my opinion. Our industry.
David was loved by many and had a great family relationship. His family said he fought the entire time. He was strong. When they would speak to him his blood pressure would rise and heart rate would go up. He fought to the end.
It was a honor to work with him.

Spent many hours talking to David about research and methods of conversion. Was just an all around amazing guy. The last time we talked he said he was working on a new process. He also shared lots of information with me that others would hold secretly. Was really sad to hear about him today.

Get this guy a monument or plaque in city hall. Let memory hold both heroism and core values. Something thatāll show the next generation and inspire others to do and be more.
