Crystals forming on top of CBN distillate

Just got a sample of some CBN distillate, on the second day I am noticing something forming on the top, looks almost as if salt was dropped into the container . This is a 98.7% CBN distillate.

Does CBN distillate crystallize or are these spores or ?

Once I find the right CBN distillate I am thinking it would pair nicely with some Afghoo terps in a ceramic cart, I am a total cart noob though so it will take some serious R&D with the ratios, I am open to ideas on terp %

Edit: crystallization seems to be forming at the top of vial

Side note
How do you like Terps? I have those as well, havent dug into them yet.

Do you have a coa? Looks like cbd crystals.

Maybe not 100% converted.

I haven’t gotten a chance to try them out yet, planning on mixing up 10 ceramic carts with this distillate at different ratios. I am a total cart noob

This just seems like a total no brainer for an effective fast acting sleep aid, if the carts smoke well and don’t crystallize. Just not trying to use any cuts other than terps

I do have the COA, it says 98.7% CBN and nothing else not sure why the very small if any amount of CBD would crystallize.

Sending in a few grams to SC labs today I guess I’ll find out either way what it is

Post a pic of the coa. We may be able to translate it, if we even can.

Just blank over any personal info.

Looks like 0 CBD

Yeah CBN crystallizes; if one were wanting to crystallize it; a non polar solvent system like pentane:acetone 10:1 coupled with a slow gradual negative temp ramp would yield Crystal’s.

Would it stay stable in a cart with 5-10% terps?

No not for long; your distillate is well above the auto crystallization threshold; you need to cut that to around 50-60% cbn for maximum shelf stability; you can use either CBD isolate or CBG isolate if your going for tfree. I’d use both personally 55% cbn; 20% cbd 20% cbg 5% terps.

Also d8 and CBN carts 1:1 are fucking fire.

so it’s basically the same as crystallizing CBD

Pretty much; just not as easy; an antisolvent is required for good yields in my experience; takes a little longer too.

You can speed up the crystallization process and induce nucleation quicker by applying a vacuum to your mother liqour for a few minutes; boil off some solvent and surpass the threshold of super saturation; the cannabinoids will have no where to go; so they must precipitate.

Clean up of cbn isolate can be mildly annoying

So for my tester round of 5 1ml carts I’ll try 2.75g CBN distillate, 1g CBD ISO, 1g CBG ISO, and .25g terps? That is assuming the ml/g conversion of isolate and distillate is similar?

As I said I am a total cart noob.

That makes sense about cleaning up to isolate, as that is what I requested from the lab but the only isolate they have has residual hexane I believe

Here a picture of CBN with crystals forming anywhere that has a thin film left from pouring out of the container.

It was a cool little surprise to open the vault and see it. This was an older batch of 83% CBN and no other cannabinoids in this distillate.

Got a better pic of label on there? Curious as to the language used

Sounds about right and a good place to start

I’ll snap a picture the next time I go to the vault.

How much CBN do you need in your distillate to precipitate?

Give 'em a shot already! Hahaha :joy:
